I was pulling up to a stop light this morning on my way to work and my truck down shifted to first gear really hard it has happened once before and it was a hard enough shift to make the truck shake a little. Is it normal? Is it bad?

Everyone I've talked to said its normal "the nature of the beast". Ofcourse there just forum members, and not tranny pros... I hate when it happens to me, think the truck just broke something. My own little mind thinks it has something to do with the TCM learning shifts. Seems to happen the most on wet roads, when I spin tires on take off. Almost as if the trans thinks it has way more power than it does from running through the rpms fast and tries to click off fast up and downshifts to acompany the "false power it found"

That happens to me only when it's cold outside. Like if it's 50- it'll do exactlly what you said when coming to a stop light, until the tranny warms. then it'll stop. I assume that would be a sticky valve, then when the fluid warms up, it unsticks.

It mostly happens in colder weather but I have noticed it before when it's a littler warmer in fact now that I think about it it happened before when I had been in that wonderful San Diego traffic for about a hour
