I was coming back from Haydays and I had a bad vibration when accelerating. I didn't think much of it because I figured my u-joints are going bad because my truck has 80,000 miles on it. Well I get home and park my truck in the shop and forget to check them out. I come back down about an hour later and there is a pool of fluid on the floor. Well crap, I got under there with a flashlight and found a hairline crack along the top of where the transfer case and Allison meet up. I guess you would call the part where its cracked part of the transmission though. I'll try to get pictures tomorrow.

hate to here that matt. Wouldnt this be a warrenty deal.

How do you figure guy? 3 year/36,000 miles is the warranty for the drivetrain. If you got the extended warranty it only extends it too like 56,000 miles. So no it will not be covered under warranty.

My x-warranty goes to 100k.

How is that? I know you have the option before the extended warranty ends to extend it again but for an outrageous price. I got my Extended Warranty option form in the mail and it only goes to 56,000.....Please explain

It's not Hairline crack = bad vibration

It's bad vibration = hairline crack.

When you fix the housing and u-joints, the suncoast brace would probably be a good idea to install as well (cheap insurance).

The extension housing and all the ujoints will have to be replaced.

I took my truck in to the transmission shop yesterday and he looked at it this afternoon. The owner said that the part is 600+ from GM, and that he had just replaced one on an Allison a week ago. I should also add that the part of the crack that I saw was very small compared to the top of the (extension housing) I couldn't see  I will be investing in a brace if I keep the truck but it has just been never ending problems. (engine fire, accident(s), multiple sensors multiple times out in the transmission, now this.) Too bad it was close to the house of it would have continued to burn.

I didn't get a chance to take pictures but when I get the cracked one I'll post it up

and might I add that my u-joints were fine. :(

Take your driveline out and have it balanced. It may have thrown a weight, or somehow been twisted or bent a little. It doesn't take much to cause vibration.

Replace the U-joints. Cheap insurance!

Change the ujoints and don't buy the kind with grease fittings; that would be a big mistake.

I was quoted 1800 for the fix.

I'll get it fixed, then I think I'm going to sell it and get an 06 ECSB LBZ I found with 14,xxx miles on it. Why not the u-joints with grease fittings? Just a question

It had the fittings, and they were greased before it was ever let off the lift. It just took the pins out on the first run, it was a test drive when a tranny swap was done and I had the wastegate actuator put on my stock turbo. The shop took it for a test drive up and down the road and when they got back the u-joints were sloppy already.
