With the last sending unit pump setup we replaced in a truck like you have it came with the new wires and all the corrode up. I'm in Md right now close to my cheaper priced supply parts house. I could get a price on the pump for you I dont think I paid no 300 bucks for it.

You can usually get it to run to move it into the shop if you boot the tank. I lifted my box with a 4' jack from an engine hoist like a dump truck and changed it on my gasser easy.

A friend of mines 98 has gone through like 3 or 4 pumps in about 2 years. I would do as sled said and remove the bed.

Does he run it on the bottom of the tank all the time? The fuel in the tank keeps them cool.

i said to myself, wouldn't it be easier to raise the bed? glad to know that this works, looks like there ain't no way them tank straps are gonna come off without breakin. i always heard that keepin the fuel tank above 1/4 full helps prolong the life of the pump, but i guess at 132k she was due. sent you a pm henry:hug:

On my 03 the bolts spun on the tank straps and 2 on the box. So I measured the fuel sending unit on the top uf the tank and pulled the bed liner and 30 seconds with a zip cut I was cleanin the lock ring. 20 minutes from start to finish truck was running and bed liner covering the observation hole. I believe in the never run under a 1/4 any more.

a little late getting around to this but i got her fixed the other day. just wanted to say thanks to henry. he hooked me up with a pump super cheap. just wanted to say how great forums like this and the people on them are. one thing everyone is short on this day and age is time, so for folks to take time to "donate" their advice/expertise/experiences to help someone out is why i'm glad to be a part of this community. thanks again everyone who posted and especially to you henry:thumb:

My 2000 Chevrolet 1500 4wd fuel pump went out at 80,000 miles. I just removed the bed and repaced it from the top of the fuel tank. It wasn't too hard.

I should show my wife these pictures, she can't understand why I want to keep TWO trucks (since I still have the 1500).

The alcohol in the gas eats the pumps parts so bad and EPA now wants 25% eth. in gas to prop up that market mess. Trucks before 03' have inferior rubber and plastic parts for this new fuel grade and it runs like crap in even lawn trimmers to whatever. We buy Sinclair gas as they don't put eth. in some grades of gas still and it runs alot better. The eth. attracts moisture and then water forms in the fuel supply too what a mess. Just our take on this but seems to prove true with Sinclair gas running better.
