Will be going with a looser converter for sure. Deciding the stall will be a whole different story. Going with the tightest a/r will allow me to switch to a larger a/r twice if need be to keep egts in check ?? And to reach my power goal
avoiding having to switch it up is why you are here asking questions right? I would take AJ's advice if it were my choice and run the 1.28 housing ungated and be done with it. I'd also run a Suncoast 1055 converter with it.:thumb:
Well I received the turbo the other day and they sent the wrong a/r. they sent a 1.28 a/r and I think I'm going to just give it a shot. They are willing to make right by it and send me the correct turbo or give me a good deal on a tighter ex. Housing if I try the 1.28 and don't like it.
I have one sitting on my desk, brand new I was using for mockup. It is calling my name.
I have heard all the hype on these turbo's.
Here is my hold back.
I have blown up a gtx4508r on this truck, and an efr9180.
That is 5000 dollars worth of turbo's.
I have a tendency to overspeed them.
The s472 I have on there now has went 11.3 @ 124 mph in a 7300 lb truck. It takes a lickin and keeps on tickin if you know what I mean.
Can't beat that then. That makes me happy knowing it will take a beating. I would of assumed the borg to fail before a Garrett but apparently not. How'd you like the 4508
Ok well I think we are just going to hijack this thread until the op can tell us how this turbo toes!!
Ok the gtx4508r ran like a scalded dog. It spooled up just like my s472/87 (both had the same size turbine and housing so why wouldn't they) In fact it may have even spooled better.
And as far as top end I have 5 tunes. tune 5 was almost clean on the 4508
tune 3 is clean now with the 472
I know I should change that but I mean, I guess I am hoping for something to clean it up.
Tune 5 was still too much for the 4508r it bent the shaft and started rubbing the cover in about 10-15 minutes. Now that 15 minutes was basically 1 wot run after the other hahahha
I run the 472 on tune 4 and tune 5 and it takes it.
Like I said I am sure the 4508 was about a 175 hp increase over the 472.
