They said it would be $7000 to do my whole truck. Seems high to me since there is no rust, no dents and the color is staying white. I know that you get what you pay for but does that seem high to anyone else?

I am not sure, but I got a quote from a guy to fix the rocker panels on my truck. A small portion of the truck to be fixed(rusted out a little). He wanted 2500 just for that project.

I figured that was way too high. I'm gonna do some more checking around and talk to a few friends and see if they know anyone that can do it.

That's the way it always seems to go, every time you find someone willing to help you out they are too far away. :D Thanks for the offer though. I actually talked to a friend today after I got my quote and he has a cousin and a couple buddies that are painters. He had one of them paint his ext cab short box 1500 Chevy and he had to do a bit of body work and take a big dent outta the roof cause someone decided to walk over his truck. He charged him $4500 I believe which I thought was reasonable and he's extremely fussy about how his truck looks.

I do have one question right now. I have Line-X in my box and it goes up over the box rails. The guy that looked at my truck today said it should be removed from the box rails before painting and then redone afterwards. Does this sound right?

It depends, that stuff is insanely hard to get off and will make a huge mess and it takes a real long time to get off properly.as long as the metal is strait and there are no chipped edges of the liner on the rails I would personally leave it and have the paint sanded REALLY well up to the liner to avoid peeling, but its all about how deep your pockets are and your expectations of the quality of work.It can be left and a thin coat of liner be applied after the paint to refresh that new look of the bed rails, will save you a lot of dough

Ok. I will probably leave it on since it sounds like a pain to get off. Thanks and I will probably have to bounce a few more questions off of you too. :D

7g's is ridiculous... I painted my 04 with some pretty pricey ppg paints and I had MAYBE 1200 in materials, and that was all my paint sand paper, tape, everything. It's a lot of work to sand it down, but not that much lol.

I was thinking I'd pull any badges, fender flares, step bars, etc. to help keep the cost down but that is probably a very small percentage of the price but every little bit counts.

most of time will be in the prep. Sanding pre and post paint job, disassembling the truck(door panels, grill, bumpers, etc), and reassembly.

I'd definitely go somewhere else, and get a better quote.

Hey Keith
My trucks been painted once or twice before by the previous owner, if I were to get it repainted would you recommend sand/media blasting down to bare metal and starting with fresh primer and paint? Also I've got these tiny tiny little rust speckles all throughout the paint and just wondering if you knew what they're from?

I would recommend takeing it down and starting fresh as in bare metal and as far as the rust, are they tint rust marks on the paint or is the paint broken and they are raised?if they are not raised its brake dust rusting on the paint but if they are underneath which I think they might be it is caused by a Very small break in the paint usually caused by a chip that rusts and is spreading out ward, sometimes the chip is not visible by the eye but its there,Your not to far away I could take a look see and see what you have goin on.

Especially WHITE? I could see black or a dark blue perhaps 5G's but white and 7 grand? Who is diss guy Pablo Picasso? Salvador Dali, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci? :D

My buddy that is going to be doing some bodywork/painting my truck said he'd rather paint black than white. He said white is a lot more difficult than people realize especially if your blending it.

White is a bitch, snow blind starring at it then you start seeing stuff that isn't there,I usually start with a very light grey sealer or ground coat to start to see your overlap and coverage.
