You could check with the local electric motor shop. If the motor has 6 windings inside you may be able to rewire it so that its 2 sets of 3 or even just one winding for 240 with a single tapped ground, versus 3 set of 2 @208 or 460 or whatever.
I have gotten into this before and its always something you have to sit down and think about with a dvom. You will most likely take the capacitors off and then measure the resistance of the windings. I know I found a kinda rule of thumb guide somewhere before but I can't locate it now. ok I found this:

5hp is about as big as a single 230 volt motor you would want to run. I got Josh one in a pinch last year for his shop. I wish I could remember the price but it was 5hp,single phase 230 volt for his shop air compressor. It was a Baldor, good luck. In my line of work we deal with 5hp-2500 hp electric motors. I could get you a price at my local shop if you have a frame size, could get my company discount and no tax. Just shipping you would have to cover.

O.k.,single phase 5 hp should be a 184t frame, you can get a cheap off brand for less than 200.00. You will need a 25-30 amp breaker. I think at 230 volt fla is around 20 amps at full load. 208 volt is around 23-24 fla.

think that was his discounted price.maybe he could get them for you guys that need them.

if thats the case, ill buy one today! i have a 30 amp already wired in and ready, just need the motor and to bring the compressor to the house. Filling my pool in gave me a few perks of adding 220 outlets in the garage (not on the same breaker as the compressor) and have a 220 compressor.

EBay has some off brand 184t frame 1800 rpm 5hp motors for around 200.00. Northern tool might as well. Lesson and Baldor are between 450.00 and 600.00 usually. If what you need is in fact a 184 t 1800 rpm open drip 5 hp 230 volt motor.

I found one for $349, and honestly, I would gladly pay $150 more for a much better quality product. I rely on mine for my business though.

There are some 200 dollar range ones but they look used. That Baldor motor new from a motor shop is 588.00. A/O smith is around 560.00. I think Baldor are still made in america. Either way good luck and check amp draw when your done. If it is to high reduce the size of your motor sheave. Or buy an adjustable sheave.
