i didnt know that jsut having my injectors under the valve cover would do this!

"Since the injectors are under the valve cover in the engine, lubricating oil fuel dilution occurred and often ended in a catastrophic engine failure"

they need to add a little more info there IMOP.

I'm pretty sure you know that fuel dilution isn't an uncommon problem on LB7s. Cracked injector bodies and/or leaking fuel lines isn't unheard of. There has been more than one person who has wiped out a motor because of it.

yep, its a good article. My machine shop actually found it (they subscribe to that magazine) a while ago and gave me a copy of it when they were finished...some interesting info in there.

absolutly, thats why im saying there ought to be a little more info there. If you were the average joe and read that, you would assume that just having the injectors sitting in oil would cause the fuel running through the injector to contaminate the oil, Not the fact you have to have a leaky hard line or cracked body to do so. damn near all of us here know why it happens but the vast majority of people out there dont. Im not trying to make the LB7 "innocent", i jsut feel a little more info onto why the contamination acutally happens should be in order for those reading that have no clue about a dmax. its just really vague for a technical article. obviously, i didnt write the article and dont know the sitpulation for what he was limited to and im sure more info could have been writen if he could. Its just an observation of mine and an opinion.

The most problematic issue with the LB7 is injector failure. Since the injectors are under the valve cover in the engine, lubricating oil fuel dilution occurred and often ended in a catastrophic engine failure. A class action lawsuit against GM resulted in an extended warranty for this situation for 7 year/200,000 mile coverage.
I think it's clear enough what they are saying.

also, I think they mixed up the pushrod/lifter year designations. If im not mistaken, it was the earlier duramax's that has the holed pushrods and accomodating lifters, NOT the later ones, as they state.

my LBZ pushrods have an oil hole. But everyone online seems to agree with what your saying  Don't think my motor has ever been apart until now.

they continued to use the remaining stock of holed-pushrods that they had until they were gone. They went to the new-style lifters (that didnt need pushrod-hole-oiling) with the LLY. So, as far as I know, on 01-04 LB7's, you HAVE to use holed pushrods...LLY+ you can use either.

Someone correct me if im wrong.

That's the way I understand it as well. Something about a hardened roller on the later lifters.

They got the glow plugs mixed up too.
