Im looking to add some air to my lb7. I dont want to push it hard. Stock bottom end, no head studs and I dont plan on building it, or studding it anytime soon. EGT's are high. north of 1550 by the time shift into 5th gear. Ive had 2 shops try and talk me into the BD supermax kit. First guy told me it was an s366 so I was like yeah sounds great. Next guy told me it was only a 64. What is it really? Anyways, if its only a 64, Id prefer a full 66 If im spending the money. What is a good kit? my local guy that said the BD is only a 64 said the Industrial Injection kit blows, and he said He has had trouble with HTT warrantying their products so he wont use them anymore. oh and Im looking mostly at the supermax kit, HTT kits, or I I kits because they are gated, and I figured that was best for my stock engine.

Couple of really good vendors on the forum. You should check them out if you are looking for help. But don't abuse them and not buy anything.

Good luck with the decision! :thumb:

I dont want to step on anyone here, but I was planning on going through my local guy. I like to support our local's as its a small town and he fixed me up great when he built my transmission. He is a dealer for II, BD and a lot of other companies. He would probably get me the HTT kit if I really wanted it. Anyone have first hand experience with the II install kit? ive had 3 guys now tell me their kit is garbage, but the turbo is good.

I've been really pleased with my IISB 66/74/14. I bought it from Henry. The installation kit was a BD iirc and it fit great. Everything you need is included. It sounds like he is putting his own installation kit together now so I'm sure it's even better. I've heard good things about HTT 66's as well. Good luck

HTT down pipe fitment is better than the BD stuff from my experience. Stay away from the BD turbo period. The II turbis probably have the best bearings because if the oiling groove they have in them. I doubt you will see much difference in life span between the two. That will depend more on you and your application as to how long they will last you. None of those will last as long as the stock turbo though. I have a stock turbo that is now past 395k.

I've been thinking about putting some kits together for years now, maybe one day I will get around to it.

OP, do lots of research on the parts you need to make your own "kit"

i put my s472 kit together myself with individual parts from people and saved close to $1500 bucks in the long run. Granted it sucks having the turbo sitting there while you wait for oil lines and little shit lol

were you trying to mantain a waste gate? If I wasnt trying to run with a waste gated set up, I would have built my own kit awhile ago.

No the turbo I am running doesn't require a wastegate for the fueling I have.

Depending on your goals right now you may not need a wastegate.

What kind of power were you wanting to make?

Whatever you do, save yourself some coin and stay away from BD and Industrial Injection.

If you aren't in a rush you can find 366's with no/low run time in the classifieds section of the many many diesel performance based forums that are on the interwebz.
Save some more money and get a used pedistal.

A box stock s366 from forced inductions would most likely suit you fine at a fraction of the cost of an equally sized II unit.

where ever the save zone is for the bottom end. I'm guessing south of 600? Id be happy with 550-600. Would a tuner be able to blindly know how much fuel to give me to not push that 66 hard enough to blow a HG, or shorten a rod? Non gated set up would be easier for sure.

messing around with options to build my own kit. here is what I have so far:
Merchant automotive oil line kit
fleece performance down pipe, driver side dip stick tube, and pedestal.
BW 66/73/.91

that price is about 1590 without shipping or anything. not bad! anything else I should be considering? Im thinking about a Turbonetics pedestal so I could add a waste gate later if i needed to.

That will work. You also need to source a plug for the coolant crossover pipe. Black pipe that connects to the upper radiator hose that has a line going from it to the stock turbo. That's the coolant supply line. The 366 won't require coolant lines. I just found a big washer, welded the hole then welded that to the crossover pipe. Then to plug the drain I stuck a bolt in the hose and hose clamped it on.

All the reputable tuners of this site know the fueling limits of these trucks.

My tunes from ATP are set up to take it easy on the bottom end. Torque has been takin out of the low end completely and the truck won't fuel real hard until I'm up in the rpm range.

What are you going to do for an intake? I didn't feel like dropping $450 for a nice metal one (wish I did) instead I bought a plastic ATS intake that comes with their aurora 5000 kits. I found it used too so I saved about $350 there
