I want to mess with my LML TCM a little. Just shift points and TCC lock up points. I forgot which way it goes, you want the TCC to lock up sooner or later? I think it's sooner but I forgot.

It can be sooner or later. It just depends on what you are trying to do. What are you trying to achieve?

If you wanna mess with shift points go for it which not sure why you would, but if you don't know how to read and understand the TCC tables leave them alone.

Well I think the later gears like 4,5 are too close and the tcc locks up with too little throttle input. But I just got my tune and exhaust installed so I will let it learn a bit. Just need to remember, i changed my lmm a little and had it perfect but don't remember exactly what i did lol.

Somebody school me on converter lockup please. Why lock it up, why not have it locked all the time? Is it
T bad for trams or converter to have it locked under power?

Oh I found a good article from banks that says converter slippage is good during acceleration amd you really only want lockup when you hit cruising speed. Sound about right?

If your not locked the only thing moving you forward is trans fluid..... fluid coupling so makes serious heat

LML trucks are no where near what the previous versions are. They have limitations and you need to know what you are doing when tuning them. With the tranny I can guarantee you that it will not work like you want it to. You only have direct control over certain items and the rest are just values that don't respond to your input the way you would think.

You're correct on the first part, but not so much on the second part.
Coming off the line you are in TQ multiplication mode which gets the weight moving and yes it makes heat. It is very necessary. Right after that the converter needs to get into coupling mode ( getting as efficient as it can ). At this point the converter should be trying to get to 1.1, but it never will without TCC.
All of the above should start with the proper converter for your particular setup and then fine tuned for your purpose.

Man I should have gotten a lmm again. Seems, can do so much more and my lmm got way better fuel, economy than my lml. Only really wanted lml cause of better suspension, frame and brakes.

I don't mean to threadjack but. I have a 2013 that I am scheduling to get the trans built with an R convertor. I currently have PPEI TCM tuning and am wondering whether I should go back to a stock file with the built trans or just have them send a new tune without the line pressure adjustment. I guess my question is, is trans tuning worth it on an LML if you have a built trans and well matched converter? The truck is still stock turbo with no real plans other than fun responsive daily driver and it currently sits on 35s with 4" lift and stock gears.

I don't race at all and hardly ever even go full throttle just trying to get the most out of it, safest and most fuel efficient. Shift points are easy but tcc lockup confuses me a bit. I won't be messing with tap, or shift speeds.

I see no reason to tune a TCM for your purpose.

Search this site, that has been covered many many times.

the LML converter is a better converter than years prior, that said i would still use converter lock up when cruising around and light throttle input. your mileage will be best with it in lock up and keep trans temp the coolest.

i drive at about 50mph around town. at 50mph in 5th gear TC locked, i can light my turbo decently but the truck will smoke. i moved my TCC lock up to 55mph so i could light the turbo off lightening quick and no smoke. My converter is also extremely efficient (ML-G converter) so unlocked, i dont blow through it easy even at the power im at and it does very well trying to get to that 1:1 ratio like Mike was talking about.

if you mess with it, make little changes and drive it for a while to see how you like it. dont make big changes.
