JoshH, I'm not going to butcher the specs but what did you order? S364.5 FMW with a .91? Smaller on both sides I think.

Going to go down in size on the valley turbo to see how spool up is effected. My 366 is going in the 66/80 setup on my brothers reg cab. Testing drive pressure before and after and will do the spool up log test to compare.

Just looking for better spool up without a big change in hp and drive pressure. As of right now, I don't run a wastegate. It's ported for a gate though. I'm a big advocate of a fast spooling setup. Much more fun I the street when it comes on quicker!

So what is the difference between a FMW and billet? Talking to a friend of a friend and he says...FMW is much better than billet..so I say well looks identical to the billet wheel I had in my Danville72 and I can't physically see how one is "better" than the other.

A billet is a forging...or am I missing something here? Just curious.

I have no clue, but it looks very similar to the billet wheels that I've seen pictures of.

kind of amusing that borg warner would push a "FMW" over cast because of gains but they said billet and batmo wheels flowed less than the cast. Unless I just missed way to much in the middle there...

The exducer kind of looks like the Gen 1 BatMo. If BW says the cast flows more than a TCT wheel, I'd really like some of what they're smoking. lol.

It's a 64.5 mm compressor with a 70 mm turbine. It currently has the .91 A/R turbine housing on it, but I found a .83 A/R housing that may go on it. Russ doesn't know the exact specs on his current charger, but my guess is it is the standard 66mm compressor 73 mm turbine with the .91 A/R turbine housing.

Awesome! I will be looking to do the same here soon. Curious to see how well she will spool. How tight is your converter? I think you told me but I forgot.

It's the ML precision converter. I believe it stalls to that 2100-2200rpm range and couples quick. It wish it were a little looser but the converter was chosen way before the twins were installed.

A billet is a forging...or am I missing something here? Just curious.

It's my understanding that-
Billet and forged are of, or can be made of the same material.
The difference between them is the processing.

Billet is made from a raw chunk of metal, aluminum and steel are what were used to seeing.
It's the end result of a refining process that achieves the "billet" definition.
Something that's called "billet" is something that is cut from one solid "rod" of billet material to make the product, ie a billet wheel/rim, grille, valve covers and even the compressor wheel for a turbo. The process of making the metal billet is what makes it stronger than cast as it's heated into a cylinder then placed into a very powerful hydraulic ram and extruded out into a smaller cylinder known as a billet rod, then it's heat treated or "aged" a couple times and then it's ready to be used for manufacturing.

Forging takes billet a step further, you use a billet stock and heat it up again to something like 450*C (maybe more ICR) and start with a piece that's "bigger" than what's needed. And then actually press or ram/bang the shape of the part out of the hot softened billet metal, pressing it (forging) into it's shape like this compresses it and makes it more dense by further aligning the molecular structure of the metal making it stronger and more resiliant to things like force and heat.
Think of a forged samurai sword, it's heated, banged to shape and size cooled and that process it repeated over and over again till it's perfect. The metal is never cut, it's continually pounded into a smaller shape, making it dense and strong, the heating and cooling make it resiliant.

In the case of the new BW FMW they forge a block and then mill it down into the compressor wheel. So they're using a stronger material, which allows them to make an even more aggressive profile for the compressor wheel and also allows them to make the fins of the wheel thinner, so it's probably lighter as well as much stronger

Installed friday evening. Sucked getting the old one out, new one went in easy though! Dropped in a few new bolts to make things easier when it comes out again in a few weeks for the .83 housing.

with the .91 housing, spool up isn't dramatically better but if feels better for sure. I'll do a lag test like before and post the results.

Cruising around, it holds boost at light throttle low rpm better than before. Never really falls off the turbo like the old setup.

The gain in torque is definitely noticeable! Kind of like when I made the batmo wheel change in the S480, I'm betting I have about the same gains here. It builds some serious torque in the 2000-2500 range.

I'll give better feedback after I spend the next week driving in Houston traffic. Liking it a lot so far. Can't wait for the .83 housing!! :thumb:

gained around 3-5psi boost in each tune at wide open throttle and roughly 6-8psi drive increase.

This was the old setup on the same exact tune

I was talking to someone there and they said the cast 80mm flows more then a batmo the batmo just comes up fast but really drops off In the upper rpms compared to a cast wheel

At some point I will be try a the fmw 68 and 83 in my setup

I was told the same thing. Cast flows better up high and billet/batmo spools faster but falls off. I could feel the difference in my buddies truck, ours were identical except for his billet wheel from Mark. His lit way faster but didn't pull like mine up top...

My billet flowed great up top like cast held over 600 till 4k km going to try again fueling it to 4k with fresh heads that don't have shot guides

Russ did you take out your gate?

Russ did you take out your gate?

yes sir, probably a year ago. Not long after I installed the twins. Had a bad lag that kept getting worse, found the gate was hanging open so I just pulled it off and put the block off plates in.

I may get another one if needed. Rather not though
