I'd take a 4wd colorado/canyon with a small diesel that gets 30+mpg any day of the week as a commuter. That's all my vehicle does 95% of the time anyways so a small pickup would serve me just fine for that. I could leave the fullsize for towing and hauling and weekend play.

shame, IMO.

BTW, I had, and loved both of my s-10s and like the little reg. cab 4wd colorado we have at work. The main qualm with them has to be their price. A guy at work was gonna get one but it was within a couple thousand of a fullsize (talking w/t type trucks even) so he opted for the 6cyl fullsize. THAT has to be the reason for the lack of market share rather than the acceptable use of smaller pickup.

Back in the 90s GM used to officially sell the S-10 over here in Germany. They never offered a Diesel option, though. All other pickup trucks over here now are offered with 2.5L Diesel only ! Mitsubishi, Nissan, Toyota, Ford all come with a Diesel....nothing fancy but
purpose built.
Even though the VW pickup comes with a Diesel I think it will be a lifestyle vehicle more than anything. For such a heavy truck they should at least offer the 3.0L V6 Diesel as an option ! :D

In Asia I believe you can buy Isuzu or maybe even Chevy trucks just like the Colorado/Canyon/I-350 with a 2.5L T-D 4 Cylinder. There was a thread somewhere a while back where someone in Thailand had modded one and it was awesome. GM's new 4 Cylinder diesel factory is in Thailand so it makes sense that something is/was on the horizon.

Looks better then what we get and has a 3.0L /diesel

hen Holden lost the Isuzu franchise, it lost access to the Rodeo name, so it rolled out essentially the same vehicles but called the range Colorado, using the name-change as an opportunity to do some tweaking of specifications and minor adjustments to trim.

As a result, the LX Crew-cab 4x4 is one of the most down-to-earth, honest, working-class heroes on the Australian market. There's not much in it that you don't need and you can rely on what is there to deliver the goods, come rain, hail or shine.

The basic anatomy is a 3.0-litre common-rail turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine and five-speed manual gearbox, housed in a 4-door, 5-seater Crewcab body with 4x4 capability, a limited-slip rear differential and a $2000 after-market drop-side tray up on the chassis rails.

Onto those bare bones are added a no-nonsense cabin, a basic level of electronic driver aids and a solid dose of can-do capability. ABS brakes and push-button on-the-fly 4x4 selection add some 21st century technology.

The new corporate 'face' is obvious, with siamesed headlamps under clear covers on a black background. A generous bonnet intercooler scoop promises much and a stout steel-tube & mesh rear window guard looks ready for active service.

interesting.

The front clip on that looks like a cross between a GMT-800 escalade and a GMT-900 tahoe/avalanche/suburban.
