I have never noticed the slightest bit of rubber down there by the nut interface. But magnifying the pics it is clearly some kind of insulator. I doubt there should be any movement though because it may cause an electrical short if worn or torn. Part numbers look correct.plug-2.jpg plug-1.jpg

There are a lot of people on eBay selling fake parts. Did it come with that nut? If so, it's not a genuine part. I've never seen a legit GM glow plug come with a nut, and I've purchased a bunch.

Those are definitely not legit at that price. The real genuine glow plugs cost more then that and the packaging is different.

I just purchased some in the last few months and they did not come with the nut either. They are sold separately.

Hell, The Nuts alone though GM cost near that much... Look up 11601765

This is how the current packing should look.

I have to disagree with you on that, Brad. These are the glow plugs I purchase from the local O’Reilly, sold as ACDelco, for about $20 a piece. You can see both the GM 12639701 and the 9G part number on the box. I actually looked at RockAuto, and they do not list an ACDelco brand glow plug for the 9G glow plug; they only show the GM Genuine line.

The ACDelco's I've gotten as 9G locally are in a completely different box. That's where my statement comes from.

If other stores beyond my local area are selling the 9G in the GM style box then they may be the same. I buy all mine from the dealership to avoid that issue here locally.

Good to know it's not widespread.

i just got 2 glowplugs from rockauto and they came in the box josh posted. Also, i am in the drilling phase for glow plug #6 so wish me luck. I got one of those glow plug removal kits that are popular with the VW guys. There's nothing left to weld a nut onto and i don't feel like pulling the head just yet. The lisle stud remover actually worked too well and twisted a piece of the glow plug right off.

Share a link to that kit and let us know how it works for you. I have only had to deal with a broken glow plug once (actually was brought to me already broken), and after many failed attempts at welding a nut to it only to have it snap off further and further down, I had to pull the head.

Thanks for the comments. I'll be getting them from the dealership. I knew I was taking a chance with these and I usually research better.
