Duramax doesn't need glow plugs or a grid heater until 30* I've been 15* and it takes a bit of cranking and it isn't happy but it always starts.

ive been down to 15-20 and it crank right up. no fighting to start at all, just some huffing of white smoke. thats 16.5:1 compression ratio, tight piston to head clearance, and stock LLY injectors. no idea how 100% overs would be in it now.

I got 250's and it does surprisingly well
They are about $175 for 8 , when I pulled mine at 80,000 half the tips were missing , being in PA they are used more often causing them to deteriorate more often . There was no damage to wall , pistons or valves , I lucked out .
The main power wire to my gpcm is disconnected in my plow truck. I was having issues with the glow plug light staying on after the truck was running so I disconnected it. That was 3 years ago and the coldest it ever started was -10f it sounded like my 6.5 but started nonetheless.
I love it after I swapped in a hx40 turbo. It will not win any races but it has been dependable and is pretty good on fuel.
