To me, that Claas chopper is the most frightening piece of machinery at a farm.

Those Fendt's still treating you well, Vinny?

Yeah the rotary heads can be intimidating, and the power they have or the fact their job is to chop everything into 19mm pieces.

Fendts have been great, the big one (930) has over 2k hrs now, bought it new two years ago. Only had to fix it twice, once for a DEF issue and once for a small hydraulic line leaking. The little 722 was new last year and has over 800hrs now. Had a couple small glitches but been good otherwise, have a loader for it too. The older 818 in the pic has 4k on it (05 model), been renting it for a couple months now with the intentions of buying it this fall.

Dont you guys cut a single path thru the corn first for the wagons to drive alongside the chopper? That or at least have an extendo on the chopper output so it doesnt blow so much away from the trailer?
Ive been dodging forage trailers/tractors for a couple weeks now. A few of the farms have upped the ante to these six-balloon-tire monsters from Penta. Pretty intimidating to see an 8-tire tractor pulling one of those coming at you on a narrow rural road. :hehe:

Yes that's what we're doing in that picture, opening the field up, the reason we have two tractors next to each other like that is because it takes more than one wagon to get it opened. With 8 row or larger heads you can pass each other like that and avoid having to cut little circles for wagons to turn around in. Once opened you drive next to it.

The spout has an extension, the corn was dry in that part of the field since it was on a knob. Thats why so much is on the tractor and making a mess. In corn with the right moisture and the right chopper driver none of it hits the tractor.

We tried one of those boxes. Too heavy and expensive for what it hauls. Nice box but with our road restrictions it would need a permit to be legal.

Family's farm. Speaking of Germans, had another track day yesterday. Second time I've done one, what a blast. The TDI actually seems fast on a road course, hangs with a lot of big cars in the corners with all the torque, but they all fly by me on the straight lol.

Had to cut out of the last session early because I lost the front brakes. Metal on metal made for a noisy drive home.

Got a lot of good go pro video. Someday I'll find time to edit it and post it.

For now though, a few people found this funny, I wrote a message in the soot on the bumper.
