Question: gears

I have a friend whom says his truck has 4.10 gears stock its an 02 2500HD I told him no GM only offered 3.73 with the Duramax I think I am right but not sure:spit:

AS far as I can remember 4.10s were only an option in the 1 tons and up. The 2500 HD came 3.73 only until 2008 or later, that is IIRC.

3.73 is all she wrote for the dmax trucks. Only way he has 4.10 is if he put it in. Or has a 4500 series

Look in the glove box at the sticker on the door. There should be a list of RPO codes. If it has the code GT4, it came with 3.73 gears from the factory. If it says GT5, it came with 4.10 gears.

I was told the only way to get a 4:10 was if you ordered them in them EC/LB truck only.

I asked if I could get them when I bought my truck and that's what I was told. "Speacial order and EC/LB only". I don't know how true that is even today. I basically gave up after asking several dealers. Sounds like BS to me.

Most 8.1's are 4.10, I have seen atleast 2 with 3.73 but both of them were handshakers

No, I'm saying those are the RPO codes for those gear ratios. It will prove one way or another which gears the truck, or at least the truck that glove box is from, came with. The VIN number is also printed on the sticker if you want to make sure the RPO sticker matches the truck.
