My current setup is 3.73 gears running a 75mm turbo with a 87mm exhaust wheel and 1.28 housing starting out in 2nd gear. This is a new turbo for this season only have two hooks with it. Now here is my problem: First pull it lite around the 15ft mark and took off like a rocket went 380ft. Second pull turbo lite at 50ft mark before it took off and was 9ft behind the lead man. Now would 4.56s help with getting turbo lite sooner? .

4.56 gears and a 3rd gear start would. A higher stall converter depending on what you have now would help alot though. Either way you need to ditch the 3.73's

Im running single 33x12.50r17 truxxus sts on h2 rims. 3rd gear start was next on my list but im trying to make convertor last till this winter since it needs to be freshen up from beating on it for 3 years. Its a suncoast 1053 with 2600 stall. pulling in 3rd gear with second gear start. I spin out at the end of track in 3rd gear.

i would get some 35's and 4.88s but if they are letting you run 380' you will probably need 4.56s. really just depends on the tracks you have and how the sled operator is and if your motor/charger can stay lit if you drag the rpm's down at the end of the track.

Thats my plan to at least try 3rd geat start once. But im worried convertor aint gonna like it since i have been doing 2nd gear starts with it for almost 3 years. Its a t4 turbo.

4.56 will definitely get you going faster which should get you spooling faster, should help with a tight converter too. But I don't know if you will run out of gear too soon, it's a lot of money to re-gear in parts alone, let alone if you have to pay someone to do the work, I just re-geared to 4.11 for my street truck on 35's with my alli 6sp, the gears were about 900, the master re-build kits were about 750, and the labor was about 1400.

Aren't most dedicated pulling trucks in the work stock class running 4.56 on 33" or 35" tires???

most cases 35 inch tires. Some have used 3.42 gears. Alot have used 4.56 gears and lower. Either way, 3.73s usually do not work other than brush pulls. In my experience i would run 35s over 33"s

If the power is there, which by your sig it should be, Id be starting in 4th and force lock up.;)

How much heat are you building on the line? I found sitting on the brakes until I had 1100* on my egt then rolling out would result in the turbo lighting every time.

Long time no see travis. I havent watched egt gauge yet with this turbo when i leave the line. With 10lbs of boost its pushing truck thru the brakes so i turn her loose. I got 4.56 gears being shipped out today so hopefully i can get them in truck before next pull. Hopefully i can find a unlock switch for sale used since ben is so hard to get up with to buy a new one.I know 3.73s dont mind sleds that use spikes like the sleds we pull around here, but they dont like the big boy sleds. Thanks for the help guys.

4:56, 1053, 35" tires, 2nd or 3rd gear start(depending on track)...lit before the truck moves. 1200 egts & it's off.
And let's just say our charger is harder to spool then yours. EGTs make a HUGE difference in spooling

Um a tight converter is not what you want trying to build boost with a big turbo bud. Right now it's just pushing through the brakes before building boost. Starting in a higher gear or a looser tc is what he needs

I already have a 1053 convertor. I have the 4.56 gears now just have to get them put in and 3rd gear start is downloaded in tcm.
