what your guys thought's on this...

few weekends ago we tryed staying in 2nd gear wile pulling. truck ran great stayed on top of the charger really nice. but we ran out of ground speed at 225' mark. (33's)

heres what i was thinking, stayin in 2nd gear with a set of 35's and letting her eat... if i do this we will be at about 29 mph (28.4) ground speed

truck still has 3.73 gears,we can hit 3rd but the truck looses to much rpm when the pan drops, an goes under the charger.

I ran all last year in 3rd gear. the truck had a 9" lift on 35x12.50s. Pulled 3rd gear without a problem. Stock injector/cp3/turbo truck in the Low 500hp range. I'm sure your tracks are better than ours in the north east though.

33s~2nd gear and 4000 rpms are only gonna get you about 21~22mph
35s~ 2nd gear and 4000 rpms are only gonna get you about 22~23 mph
Stock chargers dont really make power at 4000rpms......Need to get into 3rd gear!

im not tryn to be a smart a$$ but on our dyno curve we dont lose power till 4500, and dont start making good power till 3200-3500..

so i guess what im sayn is i want to be at 4500 rpm when the pan hits us,an in 3rd gear i just cant get there, because were on a lot of heavy clay tracks.

so with that beagin said,i wanna go past my power band, and let the sled pull me back down into it.

im just not sure where ground speed an wheel speed will match up at on the track..i want to have it match up at the 275 mark

You need to think about re gearing if you want to carry those kind of r's down the track. What is the typical ground speed you see on a good pull down the track?

well im at work right now,an cant really remember,im thinking 26-28mph
and if im right, wheel speed should be about 30mph.. an 4.10 gear with a 33's will put me at 30 mph an at 4800 rpm thats in 3rd gear.

we have a unlock switch. now if i can only get an 3rd gear start tune for the trans...all of them that i have tryed hasnt worked with our truck i dont know why. an everyone i have tryed has been used an know to work on other trucks

i would really like to take away the shifts...as it is right now,we shift 3 time's
1-2 2-3 3-2
if you take the shifts out..then your not going to be loosing ground speed by shifting the truck. i know i cant take all of them out,but getting it to one shift would be great! and it will make the truck more driver friendly is my hope

DANG most of the guys up my way set on the line n 3rd gear to spool up,then about the 50' mark shift to 4th thats n a 2.6 truck...

an the top truck in our workstock class spools up in 2nd gear an then goes to 3rd about the 50' mark give or take a bit..

My truck is stock turbo/injectors/cp3. I start in 2nd shifts to 3rd and sometimes ill let it go to 4th depending on the track. Never really lose rpm or get under the charger. And the truck stay in 3rd till the end of the pull. 3:73 with 33's

theres something else going on. there should be no problem spinning out in 3rd. whats your back pressure? i am about 99% sure you are hurting yourself with those high of rpms on a stock charger.

There should be no prob running 3rd gear and spinning out. I did it all last year with 35's! No way guys around here with similar setups could do well staying in 2nd gear.

Its sorta surprising you aren't holding 3rd with 33s. Ought to be 3700ish RPMs with stock gears and 33s around here I'd think and shouldn't snuff out a stock charger at those kinds of RPMs. Especially with an unlock switch.
