Yeah I'm torn if I do end up gasser I want power haha. That's why I was thinking 6.2 or 8.1/6.0 but wasn't sure if it would be more worth it for a diesel if I was going 3/4 or 1 ton
stock to stock, the gassers are more quick, but don't tow chit

Get the 6.0 Chevy half ton then they're beasts 07.5+ I had one all stock but stick whomped on my buddies tuned lb7 on 33s
I had an '07' 1500hd and it was an awesome truck. The auto 4x4 feature was great for pulling off the line when it was wet (or dry) like having AWD. Although it got dusted on the freeway by a ram with the cummins and stacked programmers, oh yeah, I had a d1-sc procharger too, that beating is what led me to the Duramax

Didn't know Chevy put the 6.0 in a half ton. I'm really considering the 6.2 but to get one in a pickup I think it needs to be 09 or newer
the 6.2 also comes with the VVT technology, which isn't as awesome as it sounds but will net you a couple mpg's more, more due to the lower rear end gear ratio than what can be had in say, a 1500hd with the 6.0L and the 4.10 rear end

Right on. I imagine these trucks get pretty low mileage compared to a diesel. Is that pretty true? I know my Tahoe averages around 16.5 mpg with mostly highway but where I live is pretty hilly. I know I've seen 19.5mpg all highway.
I got 12mpg in my 1500hd and now with the Trailblazer SS, which is basically the same set up with an LS2 aluminum block instead of the LQ4/9 iron block, I'm getting about the same mpg; 12-14mpg mixed driving and about 17hwy (6.0L w/4.10 rear) but it's AWD....

there's always the 4.8L V-8, it's a great little motor, I had a wt trimmed single cab 4x4 back in the day and with an intake and a flow master it would get 20mpg hwy:thumb: a set of air bags in the rear and it would haul your camper. it was pretty damn quick for what it was too ;)

Yeah I like the auto 4x4 in my Tahoe as well. I'm not looking to race anything anymore and if I go back to AK it's more so we have two 4wd vehicles and I'd like the 6.2 haha it's not a requirement. I want a diesel just don't need one at the moment haha. But I suppose if I do get another it will be good for the day I need one. I've thought about the little 4.8 but my issue is I need a CC with a kid and more someday...the only crappy thing about the 6.2s are they only come in 09 or newer which drives the price up quite a bit.

LB7 is the answer... You can find them for the same money as gas trucks. Maintenance really isn't what people make it out to be IF you do the work.

ummm yeah, but the parts are still 3-4x as expensive as gasser parts...

So you get a cheap LB7 and the injectors crap out in 6 months...OK so thats almost $2k just in parts if you do all the work yourself.

What does an entire 5.3 go for at the junk yard...$400? $300?

If you arent towing and want something that is cheap and reliable, just get a gasser.

See my previous post in this thread. I agree. :)

Lol, the 5.3 is a turd compared to a 6.2 lol. I hated how sluggish and gutless our Tahoe was.

I was lookin at gettin a 1/2 ton gasser myself. The main issue i kept running into was once you start to turn them up you have to buy premium fuel. Add a lift and big tires and your spending more money than a diesel on fuel alone. But man those 4.8's will rev to the moon and take an absolute beating

I was looking at them myself simply for the HOV lane sticker. It would save me about 40min commute each way.

4.8l with flat pistons can make a lot of power with a super charger.

Read an article where they made about 600 hp (or more) on a stock bottom end and regapped stock rings. They 5.3's don't hold up to the power adders.
