I appreciate what Gale has brought to the diesel community minus his arrogance and constant self glorifying

Gale's advertising policy is about the same, but at least he's that way in real life too. :(

I would like to think there is more to the story. I watched the video before the commentating and was VERY surprised by it.. from a standpoint of "This stuff is not done right at all". Knowing Guy Tripp for years and not nearly as long as most of you - He knows better than what is in this video. There has to be more to the story or more video I would think.

I kept it to myself, but when I watched the video.. I was thinking the following:
1. They need more sensors.. Especially with the engine dyno.
2. Thats a air to air intercooler - where is the airflow? Also why the small cooler? Fan?
3. Why run the intake whatsoever? For the test of the mile - run it open.
4. The exhaust needs to be routed... You can see exhaust come out the low psi compressor - its not getting justice with the air quality.
5. Why are they guessing on the boost/psi, etc.? We should have sensors there to know what each charger is contributing.
6. More smoke does not mean more power - why did Guy say that?

Guy knows all of the above and I'm sure has for much longer than I...and I feel very confident he would of corrected all of that if it be his project. Gotta be more to the story.. The way it is produced indeed does make the diesel industry look like we do not have our sh*t together. I think we can all agree on that... but Guy does have his sh*t together... So I know there has to be more to the story.

I've been on a series before and the way it was produced made me look like a idiot - so I know how that goes. I also have HUGE respect for Gale... I work with him frequently sharing data and he has contributed a ton of knowledge over the years as we share what we can also. When I seen the commentary video - I knew there would be backlash. I think it will be beneficial when Mr. Guy tells his side as there is MUCH more to the story than I think we seen on screen.

Watching this one...

Also - respect to all companies from here. I know everyone works hard and bust their tails.

Hoonigan Project Cars does these videos to make $$$ like a lot of these YouTube channels. There are so many of these automotive channels that just slap together parts they got free or discounted for entertainment purposes. There are some good ones but so many bad ones that just pimp whatever product.

The short block came from PPE that included a bunch of their other parts. Then they took the short block over to Edelbrock to have them put on a set of heads. Precision Turbo sent them a few turbos. Monster Transmission sent a trans. There is a whole list of a lot products they are using.

As far as I could tell all Guy did was a little bit of base tuning on the engine dyno. They did not use any of his products or even put in a link to his website. How many hours of video was cut/chop for the final 20 minute product ? I am sure there is a lot more to the story.

I really dont care what Banks has to say on any subject related to Duramax specifically or diesel in general b/c if it doesnt directly benefit him, he will talk it down and discredit the builder/innovator in order to make his products look good.

Vary valid points Kory.

To me Banks grabs the newbies entering the market with his sales tactics. Your basic bolt on stuff. Now when it comes to modern true competition engines and builds he has fell way behind. I mean be realistic. Go walk around the pits at any odss or Lucas pulling league event. You wont see any banks parts.
After seeing people fall for his dumb rear diff covers I learned his dumb tactics work.
To me that engine was not horrible smoke wise for being in such a little room. Especially when it's not dialed in yet. For the intercooler many guys have had decent luck with the ice box style coolers. Especially in swaps. Only thing I was thinking is the engine had to be heat soaked.

I don't think Guy should respond at all. He has his reasons for how he does things, shouldn't feel the need to explain himself

His marine style intake runners, even the regular ones for that matter, were under the hood of several Lucas oil series winning pullers for YEARS. Before custom W-A intercoolers were 12 grand and we're cracking and hydrlocking engines;)

I have a feeling that this build was put together by what the different individual company's wanted to give them for parts and not by a good plan. They should have had no problem making over a 1000HP unless they where out of injector or they didn't have correctly sized turbos and chocking the engine for air. Sadly a week of work gets cut into a 20 minute video and everyone miss the detail and problems that don't make the producers cut.

Gale Banks = Fake News.

So much taken out of context...........

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the great comments.

Shop Specialties and Bluessmax (Kory), you guys are pretty much right on target.

Got a call from Hoonigan looking for some of our billet injector clamps for their project. Asked if we knew anybody that could help them get a motor fired up on the dyno and make a few pulls to check it out before it went into their project vehicle.

As the North American EFILive Distributor, tuning would put me in conflict with "all" of my EFILive customers. I asked Tony @ Ridgerunner to supply some tuning for the project and off we went to the dyno.

I was just there to offer some assistance, data log and help the Hoonigan guys understand diesel performance a little better.

6 hours on the dyno and that was the end of it. Dyno facility had another customer the next day. They shot video for all 6 hours and most of it ended up on the editing floor as they say. Trust me when I tell you, the deficiencies of the project were discussed during that time.

I'll discuss this more in depth and in my upcoming video on the SoCal Diesel YouTube channel. Be sure to subscribe so you'll get notified as soon as it drops.

Until then, everybody stay safe, stay virus free, and this too shall pass.

Guy :D

Guy, I chatted a little with Lorenzo today when I called about something else, and he told me you guys were already talking with the Hoonigan guys about them coming out to help with a video. I’m looking forward to seeing it. Funny thing about the entire aftermarket automotive community is how small it is and especially the diesel performance side. If Gale Banks really wanted to put out a good, informative video, he could have called up Guy to address some of his “concerns” and find out what was really going on, but instead he created and posted this propaganda piece that does nothing helpful and only serves to drive a wedge between different factions within the community. Literally the single worst video or advertising I’ve ever seen from Banks. I’m really disappointed.
