My limited slip has been engaged for a couple of days now. I've tried banging it in reverse kinda gentle which worked on my old 3/4 ton but can't get this one to let go.

I'm planning to go into the bush soon, any estimates on lifespan?

I've searched but info is scattered, what are my current options for upgrading the carrier?

I went with a stock Dodge diff. They are a better design and swap right over into our rear axles. I have not had any traction issues to date. I paid a little under $700 for it from the dealer.

I've heard good things about the Grizzly locker and the TrueTrac.

I had my G80 do the same thing. Ended up getting it to unlock by flooring it in reverse while turning a little.

I just got more determined with it and ended up marking up the back lot of the grocery store with a bunch of Rockfords :roflmao:

It was fun but didn't unlock it

Did I read the Grizzly makes some noise?

I don't mind some periodic noise.

What are the arguments for and against Elocker, Truetrac, ARB Airlocker, and Grizzly units?

E-locker to my knowledge is only offered for the front diff on our trucks. I have one up front and it works great:thumb: Not sure if the true trac is the same as the dodge torsen or not but if so I dont think its any improvment over the G80 as far as traction. Our 04 destroyed a factory G80 and we raplaced it with the Torsen (dodge) unit and its still holding up fine but likes to 1 wheel peel so to speak more so then the g80 when the truck is off camber IMO.. The ARB unit I never personally used but I have read good things about it. My reasoning for choosing the grizzly over the ARB was my 05 did/does not have a onboard compressor and I did not want to buy and install one just for the rear locker. The grizzly works great for putting the power to the ground and would definetly be my choice hands down for a weekend warrior or dedicated race/pull truck.. ITs a racheting style locker and when it engages you can literally feel it in the truck as well as hear it. My other beef with it is for whatever reason when doing burnouts my truck now tends to hop as its gaining traction again were as with the g80 it would not.. Not really sure why when there both leaving posi marks the grizzly seems to get more traction Hence starts hopping:confused: Guess the easy solution would be to stop doing burnouts:badidea: or invest in some sort of traction bar;):)

not to jack this but... how did you notice this happining? squaking while turning?
I'm asking because my '11 with the G80 and 9k miles is "clunking" when i come to a stop in gear like a second after a complete stop? not sure what it is, but i'm guessing the G80 had the fluid changed at 5k miles on the rear diff.

sorry again, PM me with response if it saves the thread!

i have a grizzly in mine also, and i have mixed opinions about it. it does lock up great and you never have to worry about one wheel not turning. but on the other side it kinda sucks on the street. it ratchets in corners at slow speeds and can jerk around some. if i did it over again i would spend the extra little bit and get a arb. jmo

No problem, it's considered a bump ;) It is very noticeable everytime I turn a corner; chirp, bind, chirp, bind. It is a dually so they are really scrubbing now.

Check for a cracked spring but my old 3/4T limited slip did that too.

It unlocked yesterday after paying a visit to my mechanic friend :thumb:

He suggested a new clutch pack in the stocker, I got a feeling I know the replies but let me hear em anyway...

have you guys been using friction modifier when you change fluid. i never had a single hiccup with my read diff and like everything on my truck it was used and abused to the fullest extent from racing, towing, pulling and plain old screwing around.

I was under the impression our g80 didn't require any additive.

X3

I had an additive in my diff and the limited slip clutches never want to engage correctly or stay engaged. Flushed and filled with just gear oil (not synthetic) and she works good again!
