No. As long as your starter spins there is no other electronic actuation. Might pull it off and see what the bendix looks like.

Yes, flashing in the wrong OS will cause that. there is a difference in how far the starter gear moves between OSes.

No there isnt. There is no functionality in the starter to adjust or limit the bendix travel. No sensor, no servo or anything that would serve to create the ability to adjust it. Besides, there are no differences in flywheel or flexplate ring gear depths between model years to cause that requiremen, so why would gm make that functionality?
