Maybe by saying open tank they mean a tank that has a flat portion on the tank of the sending unit to drill and have the fitting seal.

My beef with the fuelab is their draw straw for these diesel install kits is only 1/2" yet all their other pumps require -10 or 5/8 supply to the pumps. If they're recommending 1/2, just use the factory supply lines. Not like that solves your problems, but like you said its really not that hard, and they should have done this from the get go. Seems they made these pumps so they can be swapped out when a fass or air dog fails and just use the pre existing install kit.

They don't say they require 5/8", just says they accept up to 5/8" in the event you want to go bigger. 1/2" is fine for a single 200gph.

are the fuel lab pumps quite?

About the same as a FASS or AD.

Sorry Cougar

I would just send the stuff back if it upsets you so bad and buy a couple of the other brands for they install easy and you can change them out a few times.

Gee, what was I thinking buying a professional product from a professional company and expecting professional quality. Lol. Now that I know the markets expectations, I'll start pedaling some garbage for a quick buck:woott:

What do you mean not professional quality? It is excellent quality stuff. Just the pick up doesn't work in a stock Dmax tank right? If so, that's something they need to know about and clarify on their website. No reason to get bent out of shape IMO. In fact if that was the biggest gripe about most other products I have gotten for my truck and other vehicles I'd be happy about it.
A buddy just rebuilt his entire steering and front suspension assy and after he got it all together found out they sent him wheel bearings and abs sensors for a classic not an NBS. That's something worth getting upset about.

I don't understand you guys. Your buddy received the wrong part on accident and accidents happen. No worries, everybody makes mistakes. The Fuelab installation kit is not a accident, it's simply not right for a Duramax. They didn't do any work whatsoever to make it for a Duramax, yet they sell it for one. I'm not bent out of shape over this, the installation is finished and I've only posted about it to warn other forum members. Lets say you hadn't ever installed a lift pump and you buy this setup just to find out it's for a Dodge, that would really suck for you. It's like some of you have been screwed over so many times you just assume it's perfectly fine now. Let me be clear, the lift pump itself appears to be of very high quality, but my complaints are about the installation kit. The problem isn't that they didn't do a good enough job with the parts or instructions, it's not that something could have been a little clearer, it's that they didn't do anything with the parts or instructions. If this had been a "universal kit", you'd never of heard a single complaint from me.

I have the velocity 200, I was told without the draw straw it will cavitate on the high setting because the factory pickup is too small. I believe Dustin used a draw straw from an airdog kit with mine. The instal kit from fuelab was too expensive. And I don't think there flow through. I'm having issues right now with my truck cutting of going down the road, I think it's the liftpump relay. Cut the switch off and back on and it cranks. Just slow like it ran out of fuel.

Did you guys do a separate regulator? I wonder if that would solve your relay problem or just put a beefer relay in.

First wiring was fried from thre power draw and was redone with heavier gauge stuff. Probably still not quite heavy enough?

I've got a friend that's an electrician , I may get him to help me figure how much draw I have and maybe resize the wiring again.

Yikes, you're not making me feel all warm and fuzzy about this:roflmao:

The pump 10302 alone is $500.00...

Have not been able to find much on amp draw just the voltage range from 12-16 volts..

Still thinkin' about this pump, that's about it...:D

Since turning 50 seems I have a lot less time to do things,
OR
Maybe just thinkin’ too much about doing things©

Hey Mike, what do you see in this pump, is it flow through in case of failure? It is a vane type so is it noisy? Really pricey...
JK makes a fine pump with good performance and it is noise free.
