I have a 2002 duramax. Had the cluster checked by a friend at the dealership and it tested good. So it is the fuel level sensor that is bad. The parts guy said it was not sold seperatly. I was curious if anyone had a gm part number for just the sensor, or if there is a aftermarket company that makes a direct replacment. I really dont want to spend 350 on a new sending unit.

I know there is something that a guy around here was putting in for $75. No idea where he is getting it from or if it is something he rigged up. i used to get them from Oreileys for pretty reasonable but, i think they went up also.

There is a write up on the place, where a guy had used a dorman replacement for a gas truck, it is not a direct replacement, have to modify the fuel sending unit, but for $35 vs $400 plus from the dealer, its a no brainer

I did the write up the place. If you can change the sensor yourself you can do the mod. Ive got the same user name over there.

I modified mine using that write up. I had a few extra fuel level senders laying around and found the correct one that worked. Killed an evening but better than dishing out that much coin.

I just found that rockauto.com has the whole sending unit on wholesale for 145 so I bought the entire sending unit. Now since it wont be in I can change the fuel line sizes and get it ready for a lift pump.
