LB7: fuel in oil

Hey guys i have a 2002 gmc 3500 hd. one of my driver sprayed a whole can of starting fluid into it to trying to get it to start (when it was really just out of fuel) and kill all 8 injectors. so i purchased 8 reman injectors from a highly recommended place in my area and i installed. the truck ran beautifully was smoking a bit figured it was just unused fuel in the exhaust system burning off. let it run outside my shop for a little while to find oil pouring out everywhere. the oil is heavly diluted with fuel. anybody know any cause of this? maybe something else could have been affected by the starting fluid? help out fellow mechanic.:banghead:

The banjo bolts on your return lines under the valve cover must be leaking, letting fuel run down in the oil pan.

would that contribute to the smoke? i have never worked on these smaller diesels so i don't know. i changed all the seals on the return lines and torqued accordingly.

i have come to the conclusion it is probably a return line. so i drained the oil and refilled and took off both breather hoses off the valve covers and figured i could at leats see which one was puking oil into the vent tube that was coming out the bottom. now it runs great no smoke no issues. this truck is a nightmare.

Was this the first time you changed the oil since replacing the injectors?

If he sent a whole can of starting fluid into the intake, you should be thankful that you still have pistons. That stuff is a big NO NO for these engines unless you are looking for a bag of broken parts.

If the banjo bolts are not leaking, then you may have a bad injector as part of the ones you just replaced. That would be a bummer, but it could happen.

opened the valve covers found all four of the banjo bolts to be loose, but i know for a fact that i torqued them to 37 ft lbs, even checked twice.

found a bad return line gasket figures and of course its the drivers side what a pain in the behind.

The injector hold downs go to 37, I believe the banjo bolts go to about 18 or so. You could have over torqued them and tore teh rubber from the banjo seals.
