LB7: Fuel in oil - Replace Injectors

First time diesel owner. 2002 Duromax LB7, MPG dropped from 18 to 10, Oil pressure dropped = major fuel in crankcase. Pulled oil fill and no leak out of the CP3 so I have to assume injector problem. I've read all the post and injector replacement appears simple enough.

Couple of questions:

1. Should I put the fuel lines back on after removing the valve covers and start it up to determine where the leak is or just replace all injectors?
2. Should I replace the injector lines while I'm at it?
3. Where is the best place to get the injectors and are rebuild or new injectors recommended?

Thanks

I would check your balance rates first before you jump right on inectors, you could very well have a return line that is cracked or leaking. How much white smoke do you have coming out of the exhaust?

Truck runs great. A couple of months back I occasionally noticed some white smoke when idling at a light but no smoke is coming from exhaust now. I'll get the balance rates check and post results. Thanks

If the truck runs and drives fine balance rates aren't going to tell you a whole lot. It is a relative comparison of all 8 injectors to each other. If all 8 injectors are worn equally your balance rates could look great because compared to each other they all look about the same to the computer. You could try running the truck with the rocker covers off and looking for the leak but you may not be able to see it with all the oil slinging around. If you can afford to have the truck down I'd pull all 8 and have them tested by a Bosch fuel shop or just bite the bullet and do all 8 if you like the truck and plan to keep it. I'd only worry about replacing lines if they have corrosion on the end that threads onto the injector.

Pull a vacuum on the return lines to makes sure it's not just a return banjo

Any more info on this?

My buddies truck right after he bought it started mixing fuel into the crankcase and would slightly haze white smoke (pretty sure the seller knew this and gave it a quick oil change to hide it)

his balance rates are all fine. now that i see this i would like to check it before making him dump the coin on injectors. (truck has like 140k on it, Unknown if the injectors were done around 100k or not as that seams to be where they usually fail at)

Just use dye in the fuel:thumb:

Might as well check return rates while in there also.

Balance rates are not really a way to tell if injectors are bad...

Thanks for all the good advice. I think I will start with pulling the covers, dying the fuel, then run and look for leaks. I'll post the results.
