napa plastic fuel filter

I tried the napa fuel filter 3960 today on my 2002 and the depth of the threads seemed too deep it would only turn 1/8 turn before flush to the housing and it leaked while priming . I am no sure whats up with it . I never had leaks with steel filters or with the used one I put back on in place of napa new style. They said it replaced the steel ones a while back ... I am now out of spares. What would be my new choice ?

You probably left the old inner seal in the filter housing. Threads are the same depth. All I use is the Napa plastic.
