My fuel filter has been on for 6K and I buy my fuel at a truck stop that mves a lot of fuel. Lately my truck has been feeling sluggish and blowing more smoke than before. Yesterday I changed the fuel filter for the hell of it and when I left the shop the truck ran like a raped ape. This morning I cut the filter open and saw that the outer pleats were black ( restricted ) and inner pleats were like brand new. I think we are going to have to change these new filters more often. I don't think 10K is acceptable anymore.

Mike, I'm changing mine about every 2,000 miles just because I had some fuel supply issues (no more, I hope) I buy them 3 at a time. Anyhow, I use a filter made by Racor/Parker. It's about 1 inch longer than a NAPA Gold or stock filter. They seem to flow well and the claim is that they are well suited for trucks with modified tunes. The Part Number is "PFF5544". The extra length causes no problems with install. The filter is also suppose to have a better filter paper that catches any water better. They call it "Aqua-Bloc" paper. Sean8816 is running them also. Google the part and you'll find more info.

Change it before 5K. I have everything in stock so you can wait for it. About an hour. I am going to do the fuel filter at every oil change from now on.:baby:

I would think that the new 15 PPM Diesel would allow us to run the filters much longer then with the old 550PPM fuel.

Pretty much any marine diesel I have seen runs a raycor/parker filter. I put one on my old VW diesel and it worked great. Easy to find at marine parts stores.

Ive been running the PFF5544 for awhile, same filter with a different name from everywhere else. The double pleat filters are longer than the old single pleats.

Probably better off deleting the stock filter setup & running a 2 or 3 stage Fleetguard setup underneath the truck. We run 30/10/2 micron filters on the big boat, alittle overkill for a 16v92 detroit that would burn anything.

Are you running a GM/AC Delco filter?

I would use the blue ones instead of the white, I cut one of each open after use and the blue had 4 sections of the pleats black and the white only had 2 sections. Also at the top of the filters that blue had 4 openings for fuel and the white only had 2

I went to the dealer just today to get my fuel filter to fix my trans issue. I know one of the parts guys and he looked up the service bulletin and told me the upgraded filter is the white one. I asked for a blue one, they didn't have it. I know the white filter I have on the truck has not lasted as long as the blue one that was on it previously. Also noticed the blue one had three rectangle holes at the top where the white has many small round holes at the top. Don't know if that makes any difference.
The one mechanic in there said GM changed the filters due to filter longevity, something about the blue filters didn't last as long as GM said for scheduled maintenence, seemed opposite of my findings. So they introduced one that lasts even less.
