What is the best way to remove the driver side stub shaft? I have the diff on the bench and cant get it to come out of the carrier to save my life.

Also does anyone know the torque specs for the ring gear bolts.

Thanks
Travis

Porta band.

Mine would not come out. Mark had to cut it off and I had to buy a new one. I did put the new one in without that evil snap ring retainer

Mine did the same thing. I had to split the case then beat it out with a pry bar. From hitting it on the flange, it cracked around axle, where it goes into the housing. Hard to explain, I hope you kinda get it. I had to buy a new shaft also. I found that that little bastard snap ring had rolled out of the groove slightly and locked the axle in the housing. The snap ring was worn smoothish and was very shiny:rolleyes:. Kinda glad I cought that before it broke apart and took out my diff.

I tryed two pry bars, one on either side of the flange for equal pressure and hammering the flange to get it broke loose. Nothing got it freed from the snap ring. We finally had to slipt the case and attack it from there. We hit it with a pry bar because the cross shaft in the carrier was in the way.

I'd say beat on it and be ready to buy a new shaft and snap ring.

I finally got the shaft out tonight. I was damn near about to cut the flange off and got a hold of Mark at greensburg and he told me a way to do it by torching the center out of the center pin. You can just barely fit a torch through the breather port and you have a straight shot at the center pin. Then you can get a big punch to the bottom of the shaft and really hit it. That pin is really hard and was fun to cut though. Dealer's cost on the shaft is 350.00 compared to 10.00 center pin.

I got my new shaft from Randy's Ring and Pinion. MUCH cheaper than a dealer. I think I paid $150.00, I can't remember exactly. It wasn't more than $200.00. I know you don't need a new shaft but FWIW. Glad you got it out without cutting the shaft. There is several ways to go at it like shown. Sometimes your anger will get the best of you and hell brakes loose and then it cost you money.
