Has anyone lost a freeze plug before? I took the truck out for a test drive this evening and blew a freeze plug out that is behind the motor mount on the drivers side. The shop may have put it in incorrectly or I guess it could be from worse reasons. Give me any experiences with this problem.

Not the freeze plugs but I blew out a few of the galley plugs out on this motor. I tried loctite and they seeped, used no1 sealer and no problems since

Looks like the freeze plugs were maybe installed with maybe a Teflon type paste. They were brass also.

The paste doesnt work well, as it doesn't harden. I don't like the brass since they are softer

I sure hope that's the only problem. It will be a shame if I have to pull this thing out again. I was hoping to turn it up and get some new performance numbers.

What is the proper way installation of the freeze plugs? Stainless only? What sealants?

A brass drift of similar size or if necessecary a socket that fits inside the plug, I only like the stainless.

Number one sealant is what I use, it's a brown hardening agent. Any auto part store sells it, thin film on the freeze plug and tap in until it bottoms out

I spoke go the machine shop owner this morning about this and he is like "I can't even buy those without going to the dealer. Those are metric plugs. Are you sure you didn't give them to us?". I couldn't hardly believe the short memory he had. Has anyone replaced them with the motor in the truck?

I've always installed with sealant and used a socket once bottomed out, used a chisel on the edge to spike them into the block. Never had a problem.
