What type of issues other than an erratic idle could a bad FPR cause? Is it possible it could cause a severe drop in rail pressure?

Maybe , but usually not the case, current hold it shut so usually when they start going bad rail pressure will be higher than you are commanding . the only way it could make rail drop is if the slide was sticking , one way to check is unplug it while logging and see what the rail pressure goes too , it should max out when unplugged.

ewwww I hate replacing them.

I think I fixed mine today knock on wood, I checked the wire to FPR , they where chafed , so I bought a new connector, so far so good , but I need to drive it more. To see if my problem comes back. No More tow trucks please
