I can confirm what he’s saying here guys. Hate to say it but it’s true. I feel Ford has been ahead of the ball game interior wise since 08 and now powertrain wise since they got the bugs worked out with these 6.7’s. The 17+ plus trucks are insane.

Ford maybe ahead on paper number wise meaning hp/tq. but I beg to differ on the intierior part the seats are horrible no support on long trips and the safety really scares me. I had to do a clock spring on a Ford f150 as a used vehicle inscpection the ease of removal and install of the steering wheel airbag module really alarmed me. I like the fact that you have to fight to get a gm airbag out of the steering wheel in the event of a crash the module want come whuriling out at you is how it makes me feel on a Ford but this is just my opinion. Ford also has not changed the f250 and up body's the style is still the same since the 2000 7.3 with few comestic changes and the flex of the frames I want even comment. I'm sorry but aluminum panels come on you can't repair the dents or dings it literally becomes component replacement. I like being able to repair and rebuild components not just replace them I'm probably going to get a lot of negative comments on this post but until Ford can produce a better product than the tried and true duramax I'll stick to my roots and hold firm on the duramax allison platform :thumb:

There isn’t a guy out here in AZ that doesn’t bitch about the ford oil temps. 300*+ when towing and not even in the 100* outside temps. big aftermarket external coolers don’t make a big enough dent. A lot of guys just resort to 3k mike changes and full synthetic but that shit gets expensive after a while and synthetic still breaks down after 300*

I didn't realize the Ford is that hard on oil. Do you know the reasoning besides the cooler isn't big enough?

While it may be concerning, most guys are not even paying attention to it so it’s not as much of an issue in my opinion. I see our trucks at work(Cat trucks aka international engines and yes I know not light duty) running high oil temps and I think it is normal these days.

Could it be improved, yes, but with all the bullshit on these engines today, it’s become normal.

Not arguing with you James, just my opinion.:hug:

No idea yngdmax but I do know they are rev happy and that heats up oil.

Stroke250, its an issue out here. The temp gets high enough to shut trucks down or wipe out bearings. I know of two guys who hot shot them out here and they have gone through 2 motors following 6-10k oil changes on synthetic. They since swapped to 3k changes and thus far the motors are holding.

300*+ temp is not anything to take light about. Doesn’t matter what oil you run, that temp breaks down the oil quick and you loose that barrier to the bearings fast. These engines are not built with high clearances, they have .0017-.0022 type clearances. That leaves hardly any error for thin oil, low oil pressure and so on.

Again, this is in high oat here when towing heavy. We have very abusive temps and hills. There is a reason gm and dodge test on our hills during summer. Strangely I don’t see much Ford out here testing

James, any of them running remote oil coolers? I know they have a few offerings that seem to be helping drastically. No Limit Fabrication offers one off the top of my head.

Thanks guys on the info. I ended up getting to a live with it price and pulled the trigger Saturday. Waiting for some sunshine and will throw up some pics. I still have the down pipe and 5" exhaust for my other truck so i can get her flashed and make her loud shortly.

I was not thrilled about a "rough country" lift BUT it rides better than my stock one did :happy2::happy2::happy2:

I have an LBZ, an LML, and I just bought a 2019 L5P 3500 and it's a pretty good size difference between it and the LML, which are both stock. The LBZ is a different story...

Tony, how do you like the Banks Derringer?....got the itch to tune the 2019...


The L5P is very responsive stock, the Banks is a difference, is it the same as a tuned truck, NOPE............but it is plug and play, so out of all the options that plug and play I went with that one.

I do have a spare ecm and tcm already for my L5P..........;)


do you think the 2016 maybe a ticking time bomb on the cp4?kinda whats got me scared,no warranty I believe on the truck I'm looking at.

I purchased a 2016 because I thought it was the last tunable model, I had ported heads, etc for it sitting on a shelf, when I saw how ugly the 2020 are going to look when they update them I got the itch to get an L5P anyway, but when HPT came out with tuning I wasted not time and traded it off.

I left it stock as I did not need it for any tuning, that saved me a hassle of putting it back to stock to trade in, but at the end of the day I would have swapped the CP4 regardless had I kept the 2016, just for peace of mind.

yup, after the first engine, they both got one, maybe a different one that what you are saying though. Have another buddy i just talked to end of last month that put a cooler on his 18 ford and still would hit 290-300* during summer. truck had 10k on it before he just sold it off for a dodge. the coolers ive seen really need to be bigger to work out here in this heat. There just isnt enough surface area when temps coming off the road are 160-170*. makes it very hard to cool things. Frankly i would say the water-to-oil cooler they come with are undersized much like the dmax. the water isnt carrying enough out but that then raises another potential issue of the radiator/cooling system not being able to carry that extra heat. these are all the same things ive battled over the years.

Rough country has upped their game in the last few years without a big price jump. Seem to be rolling out some decent stuff. Only reason they’re off my radar for our trucks is because of how far they increase track width up front.

mine was even with the back. I like the wider stance. It makes a mess with mud/rain/snow/sleet/ect but i like the way it looks. My old classic style had a wider front and i thought it looks stupid

agreed, probably why they keep cutting pressures at cruise and so on. i think the MFG are starting to hit a wall on how much HP they can get while keeping things cool under harsh conditions. there is only so much room on a LD truck no matter how big you make the front end.

These trucks are making the same power as the big tractors but at one fifth of the size under hood. Tow rating approaching or exceeding 30K. What are they expecting out of these trucks? Kinda like the tail wagging the dog.:eek:

Market forces the price in line with what people will actually pay.

IMHO the price will continue to be forced down until it becomes more in line with what people want to spend on it.

They should drop the credits down to about $100 to $150 as well, make it more in line with an EFI Live VIN License, and make it for the ECM and TCM.


its $700 for tuning credits after the ECM/TCM Unlock..........:eek:
