Ladies and Gentlemen allow me to introduce myself !
My name is Rich and I own a Duramax ...
This Duramax is my only Duramax, and This Duramax will be my only Duramax.

I originally bought it about one year ago. The truck was a good friend of mines and I found out he was selling it, and selling it cheap. I paid $6k for it !
The truck is a 04.5 CC/LB with 140k on the clock.
I got the truck so cheap because it was smoking a lot and someone told him he had a hole in the piston.... well after some thinking I pulled the trigger and bought it.
We got it home and put it in a scanner and saw the number 4 injector rate was waaaaY off and then we scoped it to find the hole and crack.
Cool, now we know what the issue is !!
We went ahead and disassembled the top side of the engine and went in for surgery replacing that piston, bearing, and all related gaskets and such while it was having open heart surgery.
SUCCESS !! The beast has been awakened !!
It was a hard 40hrs of the unknown because we had never been into a Diesel engine, but we conquered it.

After having the truck on the road for roughly 3 weeks........ my wife fell asleep while driving it. FML right ? It's cool though... SHE WAS OK !
That created another financial drain and another 40hrs or so of labor. It took out the passenger side and even ****ed the cab up, BUT the frame was good to go minus the bumper mount.
I went on the hunt searching for cabs and parts and seriously bought 3 different cabs only to get f**ked out of all of them. By the time they were "getting them ready for me" they allegedly got cut and were no longer good. FML
IT'S COOL THOUGH because I found a 06 with a TON of upgrades.
I went and bought the truck and the truck went in for the Beverly Hills surgery. It ended up with a nose job getting the 06 hood and grill hahahhahahahahha
Along with that it also got:
3" hot and cold pipes
3" down pipe
LBZ mouth piece
S&B Intake
Kryptonite steering ( the whole shebang )
Cognito tubular upper A -arms
Dual Fox shocks
PPE intercooler
AirDog 165 lift pump
And of course it got the new cab, fender and doors that got fuggered up.

I've for sure put in ALOT of work into this truck and that's ok. I was saving to buy one this year before I bought this one at a discount last year.
Now I have what I know to be an amazingly solid truck and I have touched every inch of her body.

Here is just a couple photos of the wreck and after the rebuild. I didn't take a lot of photos, but I did film a lot of it to make some videos when I get around to editing them.

I hear ya, I'm reversing a lift kit on mine after being told to just sell it and start all over.

Yeah that seems like an easy task to tackle and not worth selling over.

I can appreciate a simple challenge. I want it to go smooth enough for a descent write up. I'm not journalist but I'm pretty darn good with words and letters!

Oh and
Welcome to DD!

Im the same way. Dont waste the resources for new when you can put some effort and knowledge into saving the original. Plus with some sweat and beers you get a sweet ride in the end.

Sweat and beers for the win
I thrive off of learning and using my hands to build stuff.

I built mine... only spent $690otd includes light bar, spot, flood pods lights, and paint!

Building one for my truck is on the list this year for sure.

And everyone makes fun of my big dumb bumper.

Truck looks good, welcome.

I can't wait to have a big dumb bumper !
Thank you

I want one but I haven't been able to convince myself to spend the 2k on a bumper

I've seen quite a few for pretty cheap including the weld your own kits. Even with buying the kit and a welder you'd be in it cheaper than some.
