Why would they name it the LT1 when that name was already used on the cars up to 97 or so?

x2.

Its one thing to use a name like "hemi"....thats just a trademark/name.

But to actually reuse an RPO code???? That is ridiculous/confusing.

Its the whole "2006 LLY" thing all over again! :banghead:

very cool though. Im sure the Gen V small blocks will kick ass just like the Gen III and Gen IV small blocks have been for the past 15 years.

The direct injection (or I guess GM's trademark for it is "SIDI") is cool. Im interested to see how they sound and if the engineers in Powertrain-NVH were able to muffle the injector rattle at all. Generally direct-injected gassers "tick" and "rattle" a lot due to the high fuel rail pressure and solenoids slamming open and closed. (like a diesel)

If any of you guys have heard the recent audi/VW FSI 2.0 4-cylinders in the A4's and stuff, you know that with the hood open they sound like (depending on your opinion):

A) a healthy-running diesel
B) a gasser thats about to chew itself to pieces.

Makes sense. I wasn't thinking about how they used LT1 to name the old 396 I think it was. Just thinking the TBI 5.7s

Edit: It sort of makes sense. I just think that a new motor with all new technology should have a new name.

Does this mean they'll bring back the LT4 too?

GM has been re-using RPO codes, not just for engines, for a long time.

I'm glad to see they didn't do OHC.

yes I realize that, but usually when they reuse RPO codes, they dont reuse super common/well-known RPO codes, and they certainly dont reuse them only 15 years after the previous RPO was discontinued.

Is that direct injected? The injectors/lines looked like they could be but I didn't see the injection pump in the animation? I hope it is.

Exactly. I hear LT1 and instantly think 96 camaro or impala SS. Doesn't drum up the image of a brand new generation of Corvette on the cutting edge of technology.

I guess that depends on your definition of "super common/well-known". One that really sticks in my mind is the ZR2 Tracker. For most GM people, I think the ZR2 S10 and Blazer are pretty well known, but I pretty much agree with you. I don't see why they couldn't have come up with something else to use. It might get confusing to some people that don't keep up with stuff.

Never heard of them. But I'll listen to GM.

2nd paragraph

DETROIT – When the all-new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette arrives late next year, it will be powered by a technologically advanced, racing-proven 6.2L V-8 delivering an estimated 450 horsepower and helping produce 0-60 times in less than four seconds.

yeah..........Z71 has meant the same thing forever.............basically offroad shocks, skid plates, stickers, and sometimes tires/wheels.............

its not the same thing. (saying Z71 is "reused" versus saying LT1 is "reused" is not the same thing at all, different situations)
