Hello all. First diesel owner from the Dallas/Fort Worth area here. Overall, I love this truck! Great power and damn nice inside and out.
I used to tow with an 05 Tahoe Z71. The Tahoe is a great truck. Of the 4 years we've owned it, we've had no problems. Mileage while towing is not bad at all either. I can get about 12.5 MPG towing an open trailer (about 6k lbs).
On my first tow with the 2500, I got 10.8 MPG heading down to Austin, but on the return trip, I wasn't in a hurry, so I was able to get 15.0 MPG. Not bad! The plan is to upgrade to a 24-28 ft enclosed trailer sometime next season. No way would the Tahoe be able to handle that!
No real mods yet. Did a Banks exhaust because I don't care for the way the stock exhaust looked and I wanted the exhaust to exit the side instead of being pointed right back at the car. My wife said the stock tires were "sissy" looking so my tire guy took them and credited them towards some Hankook MT RT03s. I wanted to do 285/70/17s, but I didn't want to fool with cranking up the keys and trimming the fender liners (for now!), so I stuck with 265/70/17s.
This weekend is a trans fluid change (Transynd with the deep Allison pan), rear end fluid change (Mag-Hytech diff cover with Red Line 75W140 gear oil), engine oil change, and Transgo Jr. I'd love to do EFILive and get rid of the DPF, but I need that warranty for now. I'm looking into the PPE oil centrifuge setup, some Bilstein 5100s, and perhaps on board air with a Viair kit.
Track car is a 98 Honda Prelude. Yeah, it's a Honda, but it's a hoot to drive. I race with NASA (www.nasaproracing), but I'd like to do some racing with SCCA as well. Maybe next season.
