I have an 05 LLY with a suncoast gmax6 trans I bought from my buddy with an LBZ, when I had it put in my truck I swapped it to a 5 speed valve body because I wasn't trying to spend the extra money and he had a 5 speed SC valve body at his shop. I decided to pull the trans myself to replace the flex plate and can't figure out what fluid to use. My buddy is telling me to use "ATF +4 or dex/merc V" when I called SC they weren't very specific with me either the guy just told me "regular old dex/merc" I know the from the factory the LLY has a 5 speed ally and takes Dexron iii. Basically, I have a unique situation and don't want to risk smoking my fully built SC trans by using the wrong fluid. Please help!

Dex 3 is what you need. The reason suncoast told you regular ol dex/merc....is because that's exactly what it's called. The blue dex/merc valvoline atf from walmart is what I and many others use.
Thanks guys, mike diesel - if somthing besides Dexron iii was in it before, is it going to hurt to use the dex iii?
Dex 3 is basically dex/merc. They are compatible.
Dex 6 is used from factory in 6 speeds, with that said It probably had dex 6 in it and is backwards compatible.
