Hey guys i got a 2011 lml with 17k miles and want to keep it as rust free as i can. I heard fluid film is the way to go so i got a case of cans and i am ready to go.

Even though we havent had much if any snow here in connecticut, it is still cold out, and my garage doesnt have a drain, so i can coat it in there but cant wash it in there. How much prep do i need to do for fluid film to be affective?

i went to my local hand car wash that has jets that spray the underside, and then drove home, is that good enough?

i was thinking i would spray some 409 cleaner on the whole underside, and then fill a pump sprayer with hot water to wash it off, but if i dont have too, and i can just spray it i am just gonna spray it.

any input on how little prep work i can get away with would be great.

thanks.

If the frame is clean and Dry, do it while you still can. My brother just did it to his 15' LML and to our LB7 Plow truck and it works wonders. Best stuff you can use however, if you're spray canning it, it will take a while. We used a spray gun and it was done in 15 minutes.

I got a couple of cans from a local john deere dealer and wasn't impressed after applying it to my plow. I've since picked up some WD40 fogger cans from walmart. I wouldnt waste your time/money. On my truck one year, i coated one side with FF and another side with WD40 and the WD side was clearly the winner. I work in NYC where they put down about 2" of salt for every inch of snow.

I got a shop with a wood stove to apply it in so dry is not much of a problem. Sadly I don't have a compressor large enough to run a spray gun, so I'm stuck with rattle cans.

I am more concerned about the clean aspect. I guess if it isn't perfect it is better than nothing I guess, but it's a new truck and my old one rusted out like nobodies business so I am looking to keep it clean.

And I already got the spray cans cause that's what Napa had so I'm sticking with the FF over the wd 40 for this winter at least.

TX of course
Doesn't matter if its supper clean or not just spray it. I just spray mine with cheap engine oil thinned with Mineral spirits.
