I planned on doing a mild build and now I want moarrr.. tore the block down and get the heads done and all that and planned on leaving the pistons and crank in and get empire's crank kit and just pull the cam to get keyed.. make sense? Yeah same here.. after looking at it I figured might as well pull it all and start over.. just picked up the motor with "110k".. but it looks like a speedy sleeve on the rear main or is this normal? So I was thinking maybe lbz rods and coat my pistons since im on a budget but but I don't wanna do it twice.. but 2600 for rods kinda hurts.. just read up on manleys which is still quite a bit at the moment but like I said id rather do it right the first time.. my question is, what can I do with my pistons? Will just coating them help me any or just slap new rings on them and call it good? Im gonna go ahead and take the block to the machine shop and key it the right way, clean it and new bottom end and possibly rods.. I hqve 3 lb7's, trannys and dually beds laying around now so im hoping to get rid of some of this extra crap to help on rods and a twin kit since im also repainting it and re-doing interior.. as far asmy goal..it started with, I wanna hit 500 and be done.. then I seen the att commercial with the girl when she says more, we want more lol.. 500 seems cake now days,I dont want over 700 but I do want to be able turn it up on the dyno and put some numbers down but I also want a reliable truck since the wife and kid will be going to barrel races with it.. so with just carrillos and stock pistons and tuning it should be done I hope but like I said im in here now so I'm prolly gonna bite the bullet and do rods but 2k for pistons is out of the question, but will coating them help me at all or will it be a waiste?

As far as my parts, I have arp's, bd manifold, ats st.5 with 5star and co pilot, ats twin cp3 kit and ppe fittings for my rails n pumps, and fass 150. . Planning on 100hp ddp, and s475 over stock and efi..

Getting your pistons side coated or top coated? Just top coating them isn't enough, they need to be de-lipped as well. With all the fuel you are planning to run, cut and side coated LB7 pistons and carillios and a bigger turbo or twins, you should be able to meet all your goals and needs, no problem. Side coating the pistons is to protect the bore from any undue friction that may occur from piston slap, top coat is for thermal rejection, feedback on top coating is gonna be 50/50, some say its worth it, other say its not, side coating is pretty standard and most everyone does it if going the distance, and I believe MAHLE side coats every piston they sell?

Check out SoCal diesels site, talk to guy there about cutting and coating the pistons, he's a master diesel guru. Also, I know lots of guys run DDP injectors and tips and have had great success for many years, but I would only trust exergy when it comes to injectors.

Yeah thats a little better price there.. but if im gonna end up getting rods then new pistons will be out of the question for sure.. might be able to get mine coated and maybe cut depends on what that will run me.. I didnt know if they would cut stock pistons.. I was all set on exergy and talked to them twice and pretty much got treated like a kid with no money or something.. they didnt seem like they wanted to talk unless I had money to buy them right then so exergy kinda fell off my list but the guys at ddp have always been cool as hell and good with my previous injectors so thats probably the route I will go..
