Hi everyone my name is Daniel. I have a 2006 2500hd Lbz duramax crew cab short bed. First deisel for me. Bought it a year ago with 212000 (now with 219000) as I was told the Lbz was a great engine and previous owner assured me there were no issues. At first I really loved this truck but then a warm summer day last year came about (>95 degrees). I was only towing a 4000lb pontoon and went into limp mode getting the p0087 code. I called a local deisel mechanic who suggested a lift pump and cat fuel filter both of which I did. Lift pump is a fass 95. These are the only mods other than the 285s. Truck worked great with no further p0087 until this summer it has happened 2-3 times all with towing on a very hot day. I clear the code with the code scanner and truck runs fine rest of the trip. I had injectors checked at local Chevy dealer and they claim they are good. bottle test was also negative. I'm going to change the rubber fuel lines on the truck with Parker 601-8 lines and run gms injector cleaner through it. I'm curious about efi live. If anyone with this problem has added this and prevented this code from coming on. I know nothing about the efi systems but would like to add something for several reasons. Increase mpg (getting around 15 now) increase power, and try to prevent this p0087 code without having to change injectors or injection pump. Any and all help would be appreciated

Sounds like you have a weak CP3, have somebody with a scanner test it..., it literally takes 5min. Turning off the 0087 to report/mil with efi, you will still have low power. A new pump will run you the same $$ as EFI live, if you can swap it yourself.

Check the fuel supply line near the driver side back of valve cover too. Sometimes this line gets a kink in it, but would imagine dealer would have noticed that.

Would the cp3 check be another dealer test? I only have cheap obd II scanner. Although on live data I've seen frp up to 26000 but not sure what frp is when code comes on.
It does not seem to surge idles and runs great other than towing hot summer day
If it is cp3 where is the best place to purchase these. New or reman?

No you can test the return rate of the CP3. I don't recall the exact process buts it's been discussed here.

I would get a CP3 from a vendor here or take a chance one a used one from a member if cash is tight. You would be taking a chance though. The only other place I would get one is the dealer.

Out of the 25 venders at the bottom of the forum section about 17 of them will do good by you in finding the cp3 you need , just do research , because we like most of them its hard to pick and if there were any bad ones they wouldnt be here for long . Good luck !
