Well only after 2 years looking I just picked up my first diesel. Not new to diesel world by any means as Im sure some of you have seen me from back in the day but this is new to me.

Its a 2011 black on black (not my first or second color choice but...) LTZ 4x4 ccsb. ONLY has 33k miles so that was the selling point. Decent deal as well. 20" wheels (oem).

So this LML is waaaaay to quite for me. Need to hear my trucks so I remember that I have a huge c**k and other reasons as well. Sucks but its still under warranty till Feb so have to wait till then to do exhaust and deletes. Do have a few questions though and dont trust any other forums but here. Truck will be a tower more than anything. Not heavy only around 8K lbs. Not planning on doing super mods like turbos and all that. Just a driver.

- What is a good additive? Was going to use Power Service. Ok?

- What do you suggest on filtration? Is oem sufficient or not?

- When I get tuned who is amazing on the LML's? (I know loaded question to an extent but need real world feedback without advertising)

- On exhaust does the 5" out perform the 4" by any means and what is the difference other than price and size? Also is the down pipe that much of a problem that it needs replaced as well or can it stay? No muffler when I do it. No emissions crap either.

- PLZ tell me there is a cure for the sluggishness of the pedal input in tuning? I assume this is dead pedal. Seems needs alot more input than my tuned 8.1L off the line.

- Is Shell Rotella good oil? I know again this is a loaded question. Yes or no is fine as to not start a pissing match.

- Will an air intake do anything at all? Worth it?

- Any other mods I should do for what I intend on doing with this truck? Any "free" mods?

I know its alot of questions but tbh I havent been around the forums like I used to be. Wife and kids along with ten million other projects seem to do that to a man.

Thanks,
Chris

Also if that old man Mike Loversomething is looking..... will this handle a larger tune for daily driving with no trailer for better MPG if I dont get on it (I know hard to do but $6k in trans repairs is a stark reminder)? Whats a "safe" amount for playing? I know dumbazz questions but I wanna be like everyone else...lol.

I agree with Coker. 4 or 5 is up to you and what sound you want.

Tune by Tony or Kory.

I too don't like Rotella but many do. Maybe it will work for you. I prefer Mobil 1 syn.

NEED cab lights in a bad way. Hate not having them. Thinking Recon smoked ones since its black truck. Seen write ups on em and dont seem all that hard but does the recon harness plug right into the recon lights? Where as if I used a GM harness it would have to be spliced into the lights but plug into to the dash panel. If recon just needs plugged into dash panel I will buy GM harness and splice it into Recon harness.

HIDs dont require anything special correct?

Anyway to make this damn traction control off always and press button and comes on temporarily? Pretty much reverse of it now.

What is difference between stabilitrak and traction control? Seems same to me.

Ive ALWAYS ran synthetic oils (Mobil 1) in my gas engines but wasnt sure if you could in a diesel or not. Mike L what do you run? Bens pressure box good purchase? I dont like doing full throttle shifts anyhow so wonder if he could make it at say 80%?

I assume a 5" will sound better/louder? If so thats what Im after. Is a downpipe necessary/worth it?

I know these have different frames and such but what about suspension? As in this thing needs leveled like its going out of style as soon but not sure if they are as sensitive as the older ones doing it by t bars? Or should I just go Cognito? Up in the air on last suggestion as I may want to lift it and that would be a waste. Are guys running 33's with a level on 20's? I assume yes. Are these known to ride rough with the OEM 20's and some Good Years stock size? I hate goodyears but they were on there. Seems rough riding.

This is all I needed. Another truck to start all over on again...lol.

Thanks for all the help fellas!

Mike I will call you here soon. I know last we talked you loved your LML. Been working my balls off lately. Need a job like Johnny where I get money for doing nothing...

Ready lift stage 4 sst is a good one. I have it on my 15 and it rides like stock and wears tires evenly. I got Motor ops to tune mine and it runs very well and has tons of power...

Why not get LEDs instead of HIDs?

Corey

leds are still a LONG way to go for my expectations.

What about other questions?

I dont know if Im doing something wrong or what but I reseted the AVG MPG and Gallons of fuel used and Im still getting terrible mpg (8.5) towing a 5Klbs enclosed trailer. Was like that even when not towing. Is this what you guys are seeing? No better than my 8.1L. Taking it easy on it too. Trying to stay under 2K rpm while accelerating. Or is the DIC really that off?

I was getting 7.7. Then I deleted now I get 11.6 to 12.6 depending on the load.

Not to derail.......
Does Kory still tune emissions? Fleece stopped about 2 weeks ago. Epa is hammering down from what I hear.

Corbin told a buddy they no longer do lmls and they took it off their website. Heard rumor they got fined or something. Not 100% on that but I do know they don't delete dpf any longer. It happened on a friday couple weeks ago

traction control (TCS, traction control system)) is "straight line wheel speed control"...ie using engine torque reduction to limit wheelspin under hard acceleration.

stabilitrak (ESC, electronic stability control) is the additional "yaw control/rollover prevention" algorithm that prevents the truck from losing directional control.

Honestly I dont know how all you guys drive everywhere you go, but it must be like a bunch of total maniacs if traction control is "really annoying".

I dont drive like a grandma, and its pretty rare that I can get TCS/ESC to activate. Ive got to REALLY lean on the thing and drive in a manner that might be considered stupid in some circumstances/conditions in order to really induce an ESC or TCS event.

I think 90% of guys who say TCS/ESC is "annoying and must be shut off because it gets in the way of driving", its mostly all in your head, and the TCS/ESC isnt actually doing anything...its just the LML's excessive driveline protection software (more on that below).....if the traction control light isnt on/flashing, then ESC/TCS isnt doing anything. Anyone can tell when the wheels are spinning. If the wheels arent spinning. ESC/TCS is NOT doing anything. Its driveline protection.

The LML has lots of torque reduction and driveline protection built into the ECM/TCM (notice I didnt say ABS/ESC/TCS) software. This is to stop you from breaking crap in the transmission/axles/transfer case/driveshaft etc. The most stressful thing on driveline is one-wheel-peels...because a sudden gain in traction during a one wheel peel could be catastrophic....so the ECM/TCM software has controls to limit torque under high abuse conditions.....this isnt TCS, its driveline protection and there is no way to turn it off. Tuning can reduce it though, so dont worry. :D

Ive seen plenty of 2011-2014 dually guys post up asking how to "turn off the damn traction control because its always getting in the way". Well heres the funny thing. 11-14 duallys dont even have traction control...they have a completely different ABS setup that has zero traction control capabilities, either hardware or software. So my point is proven that 95% of the time when something is annoying you, its driveline protection. ;)

Ive seen so many people claim that the truck "drives a lot better" with ESC and TCS switched off. Meh BS. I think its in their heads. Ive datalogged the shit out of ECM, TCM, ABS, and like I said, unless the wheels start spinning or the truck starts sliding sideways, the ESC/TCS isnt doing anything to mess with your intense fine-tuned Andretti driving experience of your 8000lb pickup truck. :)

Everyone hates ESC right off the bat. But I guarantee there will be at least once when you NEED it, it will save your (and your passengers, who might be family/loved ones) ass, and you'll sit there wide-eyed saying "wow....maybe its not so bad". Driving down a windy road at night, 50-60mph, pitch black, maybe a little rain/wet roads, you're a little tired and not paying attention/dont have your Ken Block hero driving shoes on, and a deer jumps out. Thats when ESC is really going to prove its worth.

Everyone thinks they're an excellent driver and can control any vehicle in any situation. Fact is, these are 8000lb top heavy pickup trucks. OK so after a few years you've gotten good at bringing your truck out of some hairy loss of control events...but then you throw 2,000lbs in the bed or have a trailer on...you just totally threw a wrench into the works as regards to the trucks dynamics and handling and its not going to react anywhere near the same.

I've lost track of how many times ive seen guys post on the forums about rolling their truck, and at least half of them man up and say "it just got away from me quickly....I lost it on a wet/rain/snow road....". When is the last time I saw a rolled over LML? I cant remember. Honestly its because they all have ESC (well except duallys, they didnt get ESC until 2015).

Ok thats my one technodork mumbo jumbo soapbox post of the week, I promise

For the pressure box, you can adjust the throttle threshold to whatever point you want. :thumb:
