I got a new to me used fifth wheel camper. I understand that I have to remove the tail gate while towing the camper. When I do this then I will lose the backup camera.

I like a backup camera on a pickup for safety reasons.

What are some solutions?

well the back up camera will do you no good with the trailer on there and you dont need to remove the tailgate to use the trailer unless its a much older trailer that will not let you hook up with the tailgate down (talking certain models from late 90s and older)

The guy I bought the fifth wheel camper from removes his tail gate when he towed it. He has a 2016 3500 HD dually.

I was wondering if the tail gate needed to be removed. Sure would be nice if you didn't have to.

They sell wireless back up cameras that I have seen. But I'm not sure if the wireless will work that far. You will need to look in to it

i can walk between my trailer and truck with the tailgate down and hitched up. its very tight and im thin(er) but there is plenty of room. that is on a 2015 trailer though on a 2002 dmax CC/LB. there is no taking corners with the tailgate down.

most travelers take the tailgate off or put a different one on cause they are constantly unhooking/rehooking to use the truck to get around where they visit. one less thing to do when getting ready to leave or unpack

I'd rather have my tailgate than none. Even if it requires 10 dec more time to hook and unhook

yeah but when you get old, thats one more thing to remember and one more thing to do. we just aint old enough yet :D

I am. I'm old enough that this year I have to sign up for medicare, Medicaid, or mediwhatever... so I guess that makes me officially old.

So it looks like I can have my backup camera as long as I am extra careful when I leave the tailgate on.

Thanks for the inputs.

I will say my back up camera is pretty handy when I have my 5x10 utility trailer on
