The FICM is a "smart" voltage amplifier.

The act of amplifying any voltage introduces a time delay from the actual controlling signal depending on the rate and duration of the pulses. Of coarse, that means a timing shift which we don't want. That and keeping the output voltage within spec keeps the tiny processor in the FICM rather busy. It uses the injection pulse signals, combined with the crank signal, to adjust timing of the internal inductors, capacitors and SCRs to generate the pulse as commanded by the ECM.

This is a very interesting thread. With this being said, is it possible that a slight malfunction in this little box can cause an injector(s) to fire incorrectly (meaning to much fuel) and crack a piston?

I extended my ficm wires about 5 ft to get the ficm into the cab. The specifics of the build are in my build thread. It will not start because I am getting a U1800, U2106, and P0370. The last code originates from a timing reference signal wire I extended the cps and ckp wires to the ficm, not sure if this is where my problem lies yet. My question is, if I didn't disturb any original shielded wire, should I be concerned?

Can bus short originates from the tcm, internal short I'm guessing. the 0370 I haven't found a good reason for yet. we didn't touch the actual ckp or cmp wires while making the harness, just the ficm grounds and the ESS wire. bad sensor maybe?

i have never opened the harness so here is my question - Are any of the wires a special braided wire or anything other than standard jacketed copper wire? and would a longer harness negatively affect the timing of the injection signals?

if i relocate mine i had planned to put it on the driver's side with the return fuel running through it. i didnt want to have to hack the harness too bad.

the yellow and green striped wire is shielded, but if you open up the wire conduit up by the connector it goes from a small blue wire up to the yellow and green the small blue isnt shielded and you can splice into it there with no troubles, but if you were to extended very far i would be concered with interference from rf signals and would look into making your own shield for it.
