Can you guys post up some picture of where you put yours. I am looking at putting my new one in dry and off of the engine. I am thing of the fan shroud, but not sure. I just don't want to have to lengthen any wires.

This may be overkill for what you want to do since you don't want to lengthen any wires. But this is my setup. I love vehicle electrical so I rewired the whole engine harness and mounted the FICM under the engine.

ok so i relocated mine below where the stock air box used to be, and my stock wires worked however they are at the max. what is the simplest way to lengthen the wires with no issues and which wires again are sheathed? so i can lengthen them in the right area without causing a electrical nightmare. I have a old harness i might be able to use pieces from.

It's been a while since I did that as you can see by the date on the photo. But it was pretty straight forward. I just bought a few rolls of wire and some good connectors and heat shrinked all the connections. Have had zero issues with wiring since then. If I remember correctly I didn't do anything special with the sheathed wires, just made sure they didn't pass by any high current wiring, e.g. injector outputs/glow plug wiring.

You can put it on top of the shroud and not extend any of the wiring. Reece put his there and it turned out nice... You can't see it in the pics but there is a piece of flat strap from the shroud to the thermostat area that the wiring is straped to. Reece did this incase the serpentine belt ever got thrown/broke it wouldn't take the wiring out.

Only 1 lol it's a bigger yellow wire (atleast on my lb7) iirc it's the trigger wire to the film and it's warped with a bare wire and then sheathed with the yellow casing. We did t know this to begin with and cut all of them and and extended them all and had no crank signal (because we grounded it to the ground that warped the signal wire lol) took awhile to figure it out but it worked out nice in the end.

1 more thing I used the bracket from the ficm and mounted it to the inside on the passenger fender so the ficm would bolt right in and still remain grounded.I was told it should stay UNgrounded as that could cause some problems.

Yeah as I said I. Put mine down below we're the stock air box was and mounted the stock bracket to the radiator core and the stock wires worked but they are tight. So if I just cut them say three inches back from the slide connectors I should be fine so long as the wires don't pass a injector wire or glow plug wire?

yes. grounding is very important... As well as the yellow wire you guys are talking about to the ficm. Its shielded to prevent signal interruption.

So what is the best way to extend this shielded wire? Can u produce a make shift shielded wire? Or use a piece from another harness, but if I was to do this the splice is still not shielded. How do you overcome this?

The best way to splice shielded wire is to splice the wires separate and cover with heat shrink, then twist the shield together and heat shrink the entire splice again.. Ive spliced a lot of shielded wire this way and never had any issuies.

on edit: if you want to extend the wire just make sure you use shielded wire and splice it the way I said.

Ok thanks a lot. If I want to extend other areas of the engine harness, are there any other wires I need to look out for?

So the FICM needs to be grounded to the truck? I thought it was grounded to the bottom of the block
I meant ungrounded, the ficm itself is ungrounded the wire wraping the referance wire goes right to the ground on the engine block passenger side.It is suposed to cancel out any disturbance from the altenator or other electronics. We had another harnes and just spiced it in to extend it.
