But instead of jumping directly to bent rods, which IMO is the extreme, wouldnt you tend to think a slight + number would be more related to the natural variations in an engine? Slightly different ring seal, slightly different protrusion number, slightly different compression between cylinders. Even the differences inherent between individual injectors could cause the same thing.

I fully agree, and that is what I was mainly getting at initially (even if it didn't sound like it).... just doing a compression test will/can give you more insight as to what is going on in the engine and possibly with the injectors.

My truck has had two injectors show +2-3 since 12k miles and two more -2-3. The rest are 0

Op, I blew one injector out the first hour I had my motor together and it was loose enough I found it right away.
The second injector had a slight tick and took a few hundred miles to figure out until it leaked long enough to build up enough soot to see (#5, it was hard to see) if it's a tick I'd go look for soot closely, or start pulling injectors, you could just retorque and see if that takes care of it but I'm partial to having that oring in place because I wash my motor a lot and on shit roads, could make and injector seize over time and make it hard to change later

Hey guys,

Just an update here, I believe I found the culprit. I spent some time in the garage yesterday and decided to start pulling injectors on the driver’s side after searching extensively for any exhaust leaks and finding nothing. Starting with cylinder 8 I found what is shown in the attached picture, definitely soot/black up above the copper seal so I cleaned it and the injector bore up, put a fresh copper crush washer and o-ring on and put it back in the motor. Like suggested previously I used arp assembly lube on the hold-down bolt this time and verified proper torque multiple times.

After around 30 miles of hard driving yesterday it appears so far that the noise I was concerned about has subsided. I will be keeping my eyes/ears peeled still but for now things seem much better. Thanks to everyone for their input. Hopefully this is the last issue I’ll be having for quite a while!
