No problems for me.. Mines been done this way for quite some time now and Im very happy with it.. You dont have any bare wire showing do you? like on the antenna there is a little wire wrapped around it all the way up, if its grounding out that might hinder your reception..

Thanks KC, I have noticed a little loss of reception in mine, I will have to check this out.;)

After having to reach around the antenna to scrape my windshield this evening, I definitely have to do this mod.

What did you use for the bracket? The antenna needs a good ground for good function
I used a piece of metal strap material from "Lowes" "$5.00" and bent it with pliers to fit.


As said earlier, I am not having recpetion problems, but i'll check into moving it to the front cowl position this weekend to see if it might be a feesiable option for the folks with radio reception.

tools used:

7mm socket
small crescent
saw zaw
vice
drill
dremel
belt sander

Parts:

1" x 5" metal strap
screws
dynomat

Took antenna off, made a template out of a business card to match antenna base, drilled metal strap then bent it 90* to hold antenna in place, used dynomat to hold antenna againest body to keep in place :D

Larry, you know you really should'nt wear sandals when drilling metal! ;)

Hey guys this is a great idea. Larry, did you ever move yours to the front cowl position (see response 12/19/08 @ 11:34 P.M.)? Has anyone else moved theirs to the front cowl? Just curious if reception is better under the cowl than under the hood.

I havent had a problem with reception so I havent tried the cowl area :)
