FASS 150 Issues

So my buddy has a fass 150/150 setup on his truck and lately here if the truck is anything below a half a tank it is cutting out on him. If he parks the truck and tries to restart the system has lost prime and he has to manually bleed the system to restart.

He has talked to Fass and they have told him he needs to run a draw straw. He has researched on other forums with people having similar issues and trying the draw straw and drilling extra holes in the basket with hit and miss success.

We have thought about running the fass return line into the factory fuel return to avoid dumping fuel into the pickup and causing foaming.

Anyone tried this or anything else that fixes the problem?

the PPE pickup didnt fix mine, I have a kill switch for my pump right now and turn the pump off at around 175 miles, this is because I f(*&(*^&*ed up my fuel gauge when I installed the PPE pickup, I chose the 175 mile mark as this is about where it stumbled at in traffic, It show the pump pressure flicker on the gauge and hit the kill switch in time to not be stranded. Before I installed the PPE pickup I could go to about 220 mile mark before shutting the pump off. I have wondered about teeing into the factory return line though. I'm also pretty close to ditching the fass and getting a Mitusa.

its funny about the fass systems , none of the pump only trucks have issues . even before my hellman pick up on the stocker ... i could run down to 1/8 tank D/D . since the hellman i can run at the strip on 1/4 tank of fuel i would just re plumb it . and dump the return through my own hole in the top of the tank , or right back into the sender unit . or drill holes in the sender bucket .

I have never had any problems w/ mine(fass 150 w/ filters). Just last week it was ran down till the low fuel light came on and still no problems.
I am running the Socal pickup and bigger feed line.

Anything less than 1/2 tank, and I could watch my fuel pressure gauge slowly dip. The lower the tank got, the lower the pressure dipped. And that's with the Kennedy pickup mod in my tank. I just never let the truck go below 1/2 tank.

My guess would be that the pump is getting weak and cannot create a enough negative pressure to draw the fuel up, or there is a leak somewhere allowing it to suck air and when it gets below half tank, it sucks too much air and loses prime.

Or there is a hole in the crappy plastic accordian stocker POS pick up tube and below a half tank the larger than stock draw from the pump makes it suck air, or possibly it could even be sucking it flat!

The make of the pump if it is good working order should not make a diff. IMO. Unless it is a KD, which is a centrifugal pump and not a positive displacement like the FASS, Air Dog etc. and has different pumping characteristics.

Just throwing out some possible scenario's for you to roll around in your coconut!:D
