little question. If farm diesel "off road diesel" has red die in it for TAX issue why or how does a DOT officer have the authority to check your tank? Does he have the right to tell you how to file your taxes also? NO off road diesel is tax related which means there has to be a federal IRS agent present in dipping your tank. In the state of KY i know for 100% fact a DOT officer does not have the authority to check your tank without a IRS present. If you are still skeptical you can dump a half a quart of filtered used motor oil in your tank and it will turn from red to BLACK no harm in the engine but can now is listed as a alternate fuel because its your blend. :thumb:

So are you saying we should run it an if we get caught we can tell the judge it's no big deal because you can put oil in your fuel and change the color

I'm just trying to figure out why a 2.5 year old thread was brought back up for that.

We always have red dye diesel around on the ranch for equipment. To my knowledge it is full sulfur and my truck sure seems to run good when I'm running it. Fines are huge if you get caught running it and are not registered as a farm or ranch vehicle.

in the US, "Off Road Diesel" is the same as fuel at the pump Our lovely epa forces all diesel sale in the US to be 15ppm or less sulfur. Low Sulfur diesel ran roughly 500ppm and pre 04 diesel ran in the 1000's.

Today the color is only an indicator that it's tax free...
