I own the commercial EFI live software with a V2 but I have 3 different trucks to tune with dsp5 switches 2 are already unlocked, and I need good tunes and the ability to read and modify them down the road for bigger tires, tranny upgrades, turbo swaps etc.. My personal truck is an 06 LBZ I currently have my dsp5 setup with tunes I made.
My brother has a 04 LLY and wants a optimized stock, smoke, tow, dd 100, 120hp
Dad has an 08 LMM and wants optimized stock, economy 20, tow 50, DD 80hp, 120hp
I can tune my LBZ but tuning their trucks makes me nervous even though the LLY is easier than my LBZ. I called ATP and was told they lock their tunes so I cannot modify or view them. I know why they do that but I will not buy them that way, Im sure I will need to make changes down the road including switching out the smoke tunes for something useable once "coolness" wears off for them. also like my LS motor Im constantly trying to improve efficiency to gain mpg and I want the options to modify available to me. I would sign a waiver if that's what it would take. do all tuners lock them out nowadays?

Ive downloaded some tune files from tunedepot but id like them all made by the same person to avoid drastic changes in diff tables
any advice would be appreciated, any dsp5 tune files I could use or start out with would be GREATLY appreciated

Thanks guys

I doubt you are going to find one of the "name" tuners that are going to sell you unlocked tunes.

Im sure if you were to ask questions about what you are unsure of, people can give you tips to help. There is a LOT of information here in the tuning section that can help. You just have to start reading.

BTW, "smoke" and "coolness" really dont belong in the same sentence. Its frowned upon by all knowledgeable people out there.

You'll have a hard time finding a quality tuner that will make a smoke tune or send tuning unlocked.

If you decide against these terms, let me know if I can be of assistance. :thumb:

This.

Don't expect to get quality, smokey, unlocked tunes. That's like asking for a unicorn. Now, I can send you somewhere for some sh!t smokey tunes that they'll hate, but damn things will smoke. Lol

"smoke" and "cool" don't go together for my taste either, Im new to diesel tuning. But I know less smoke = more efficient = more power= more mpg.
I used to think the smoke was cool so Im not gonna stop him from getting what he wants
I originally bought the software to tune the motor in my corvette as Im constantly changing and upgrading parts and trying to make as much power and fuel mileage possible. Ill be tweaking on the LBZ and LMM as well. If I signed a waiver of liability from engine damage would that solve the lock issue or is it locked so people aren't redistributing those tunes to others? also would feel more comfortable seeing what changes were made in my tune, and insightful to learn more on my own

Tuners pour HUNDREDS of hours into their craft. This is why they lock their tunes. So people can't just look at the data, compare it to stock, then "make their own" tunes.

In all seriousness, you either going to have to tune them all yourself, or ask a reputable tuner if they will cut you a deal on tuning for the 3 different trucks. Some of the board vendors have very reasonable pricing for good quality tunes

I understand that, and I respect that they need to do that. wish there was a way to change standard things like tire size, turbo vanes, gearing, ect.
I really want to learn how to tune but it seems the tricks of the trade are kept secret. I have a DVD set from Greg Banish called "calibrated for success" are there any instructional dvds out for the diesel community?
this $900 software might as well be a autocal box if I cant learn how to use it properly. I have a hard time with reading comprehension and I forget what I read after 4-6 pages so audio or video works much better for me and im sure im not the only person that would benefit

The only place you will find decent free files IMO is over on DP. I ran a tune from there for a long time as a single tune written by CIT1991??? Got great mileage and ran pretty good, did 392hp on Danville's rollers. If you want a dsp5 setup and all of them to be worked out good, gonna cost $$$ or do it yourself.

I haven't looked into it, but I thought you could request/opt to have an "open" stock tune file as a base file to tune off of, when purchasing efi live? :dontknow:

If you're already "tuning" you're LBZ, creating a "smoke tune" shouldn't be all that difficult, something about maxing out the MAF tables to fool the the ECM to providing more fuel in an improper timing table, I think...but W(hy)TF would you? I wouldn't do it for my bro just cuz I wouldn't want him abusing it and making our hobby look bad in the public eye...

From what I've gathered, tuning the LB7 and LLY's is actually "easier" cuz they utilize less tables, but tuning for the LBZ/LMM yields a better tune cuz there are more tables available to dial in the tuning, albeit more complicated

Some of the more powerful hand held tuners from edge, banks and ppe can tune for tire and gear and swaps and whatnot and may be more suitable for your dad and bro for those purposes and I believe can work with EFI live tuning for those parameters alone.

Let's see where this goes from here
