Falling on face, overheating, high egt

I am brand new to this forum, and to diesels for that matter. So sorry ahead of time if i sound stupid.

I have an 07 LBZ i bought a month ago and i don't know where to start, i searched the forums and couldn't find what i have going on.
To start, it has intake, exhaust, lift on 37s, and EFI live.

since i got it it will randomly fall on its face, mostly if im WOT it will act like i just stopped touching the throttle, usually it does it and i left off for a few seconds and can try again, sometimes it doesnt stay off and surges as if i was bouncing my foot up and down really fast. sometimes it even does it at half throttle but its more rare. I have been driving around on the stock setting to see if its cause my EFI guy was an idiot but it does it on stock as well.

as if that wasn't enough... today i was towing with it for the first time only about 5k total. My EGT would peg my gauge if i didn't babysit it and it wanted to overheat. The above problem was more consistant with weight behind it as empty it only happens about 5% of the time. I have no idea where to even start. I am a decent DIY gas mechanic but totally lost on my new truck.

Any help or advice in giving at least a direction to start would be appreciated.

(yes, i did fuel filter first thing, also changed every fluid and filter that exists the day after i bought it for piece of mind)

Rail pressure is probabally falling and that's why it's most likely losing power. The suction side of the cp3 gets worn and can't keep up. My LMM got so bad it would do it on the stock tune as well. Seems like its time for a lift pump. Only way to tell is to monitor rail pressure, actual vs desired and see what's going on...

As for the EGT issue. I'd bet the egr is sticking open and causing excessive EGT's. It can also cause the above problem. Easy enough fix, just install a blocker plate...

When it falls on iTs face does it smoke a lot? Just like guys said above check rail pressure, maf, and the egr. My bet is egr. Any check engine codes?

Sorry, didn't mention EGr is blocked.

also, on the stock tune the turbo holds 24 psi WOT but when i change my switch even sticking at WOT it varies between 20 and 26 but never higher. i thought with a tune he could get more out of it.
Sounds like i can't really look into anything myself, gotta pay someone to plug into it and try to recreate the problem?

No light whatsoever. it doesn't smoke or anything when it falls, it literally acts like i just stopped pushing the throttle.

I was leaning towards that just from random google searches and forum searching. Then these other problems with the egts and trying to overheat with what should be a light load for a diesel made me wonder if its something else and its all connected or if i have a few completely separate problems.

What tune are you towing on? Your 37s are not helping you at all but that light of a load should not do that. I used to have 37s and my egts and heat were higher than it is at stock height now but not excessive. What part of Utah are you from?

Actually physically blocked with a plate or turned off with EFI and unplugged?

I ended up turning the tune down to the stock tune to see if it was just doing it cause of the tune and it didn't seem to help that matter at all. And i wish it wasn't lifted so high with such big tires, but i got a stellar deal on it so i settled. I live in provo area, work in park city area, and frequent salt lake area. This overheating was pulling parleys, but i was only keeping 60 mph to try to keep these issues at bay.

(actually grew up in sunset right by you, aunts live in roy)

Any idea who's tuning? Not all tuners are created equal and can affect egts greatly. Do you have stock gears? Checking for a blocker plate is easy. Look at the passenger up pipe and see if there is a small tab sticking up. I actually live in Sunset, grew up in Salt Lake.

The tuning was done after i got it by sss diesel, and i am fully convinced he sucks, when i went i didn't even know basics and took his word, but since have researched a lot. According to him, he can't change shift points or defuel with efi live, so either he lied to me or he doesn't really know how to run his stuff. not sure which is worse. To my knowledge it has stock gears, i bought it from a dealership in woods cross who got it from auction before me so info was limited. Who did you use for your tune in this area? would you recommend him?

Seems to be a rail issue as others have stated. Do you have access to a V2 or anything to kinda get you pointed in the right direction?

I don't, i thought about adding that just for the diagnostic ability, my wife is reluctant to let me spend money after paying 19k for it....lol
