I am not getting how Facebook works.

Until very recently, I didn't even know there was a "stream" of info from "friends". I had always entered it through the profile page.

My problem lies in the confusion of the whole thing. It's like a "chatroom". My little brain can't filter it well.

But the biggest thing, is that my comments are "customized" for the intended audience. I don't post the same way when talking to different groups. How I talk to family/old friends/business friends/racers/new friends/etc/etc are all different.

I was thinking that Facebook would replace the webforums as the mode of communication for groups. But I'm no longer that sure.

It's certainly not a "fad" that is going to pass, but nor is it a good way to share tech info AFAIK. It would be like comparing a TV show about hotrodding to a book about hotrodding.

Am I the only one who feels confused by Facebook?

FB and the others like it are good for socializing. Without a major revamp to their setup they could never replace technical sites like this one. The information is not organized nor is any way to search for information.

If you think FB is confusing now wait till the new Timeline is released to everyone. I've seen how it looks on a few peoples pages and to me it looks just like MySpace pages I had seen in the past.

The timeline feature is stupid and just like Rob said it makes it look more like MySpace. It's very confusing to look at a profile with that feature on. Until they come up with there own forum system I don't see it even being close to being a competitor to the forum communities.

Seriously though . Anybody that used the new look ..... I leave their page . Its confusing and yes like myspace . Huge fail in my opinion . I declined the new vamp on my page . Didnt like the way it is layed out . I stuck with the old version . Easier to just scroll down .

For you Pat .... I would actually have or make 3 different facebook names ... a personal page for you , a business page whatever name you want , and a hot rodder tech page again with a different name . That way you can be different on all of them and keep all the topics seperate and easiest way to keep the way you talk to everyone seperate also . Only way I see it working for you by what your describing the issue is . Woud keep topics all seperate and not clog up your personal page with other crap . :thumb:

Why are you even on Face-Book My-Space or any other Internet Trailer Park up to the minute all up in your bizz-nus site anyway? To me it's designed around kiddies. :D

Never did get the draw except it's like living in a Trailer Park where everyone knows everyone and being nosy! I have a few friends that participate in those sites and a few times we've sat around playing cards by the time I'm done busting their balls they start to wonder themselves. :roflmao:

Anyway I don't get it if you want to stay in touch with people ,I mean really want to in a meaning full way pick up the phone and have a conversation. Do you really have to post BRB I have to go put the laundry in the Dryer or hold on I gotta wipe? :roflmao:

It has it's place. Excellent way to share photos with your family, keep up with them, etc. It depends on who you friend.

The majority of my co-workers (ages 22-62) are all on Facebook...

I dunno I hear what your saying I've just heard about to much personal info posted. Just like the morons that get in trouble at their jobs for posting BS. Just one of many examples.

Like you said depends on who you friend but how do you control who you friend ,friend(s) that might see what you might want not to view? Just becomes a cluster IMO.There's always away around some permissions. Perhaps it's just me ,your most likely not one of them, I just see people posting so much personal BS on there it makes me laugh.

I'm sure they are ,so is my wife (rarely),my secretary ,on my time also I'm sure, 90 % of the people on this site and millions more. Some use it to stay in touch with friends and families others post their dirty laundry.

IMO if you break it down to who use it for it's proper intentions are minimal compared to those who as I like to call it " Internet Trailer Park!" :roflmao:

If it works for you and others ,I'm sure you use it properly, great. I prefer to lead a more private life than some. If I want someone to see my vacation or holiday pics I'll send a e-mail.

I get pissed when some of my riding buds post pics of me on the 'space' when I find out I make them take them off. Why should I make it easy for Johnny Law to find me if they were looking for me? :roflmao:

I post on it all the time, even have a few friends on here as friends on FB. My life is an open book and have nothing to hide. That being said I don't post anything illegal or me doing anything illegal (or during work hours).

I look at it as a tool, much like a hammer, there is those who use it properly and those who don't and F stuff up...:roflmao:

As you say though, I try to be "aware" of my private friends and make sure not to post anything they do not want or need posted.

I joined just because most of my family are on there, and its easier to swap info that way.... but I got so tired of all the "what I had for breakfast" and "I took a big dump today" -type posts that I just "x" everyone's info out now. Hell, I dont even know half the "diesel guys" Im "friends" with.
I think the only things that I let "post updates" are ATP, Merchant, MTTPA and Grand Ledge Football.

Exactly! I absolutely hate, general social "network" sites, but i hate most of society too... I have to admit that I carry a completely anonymous FB page with no pic or any info at all, just to see the pics my world traveling race team buddy posts. He is my only friend, I even denied my girl, just there for his pics cause he's to lazy to e-mail them to me! The things we do for our F-ing friends!:thumb:
