I'm gonna need a towel. :p

If those are by hand, they need to be submitted into a competition for best welder. Can't be many folks in the world that can weld that well.

i agree.... the thread was made about outstanding welding skills no?

Greg was baited to put his 2cents in,Ill see if I can get him to post pics over here. I got him to join awhile ago but he didn't like how his former employer was a contributer over here.

yes he did but those are not ont he same level of quality as these... you can see start/stop/pause in the weld bed

story has it that they are all hand welded which i have seen this quality from tig welders before... from welders in the navy doing quality control welds
Having grown up around welding I will say this. Those welds are awesome looking. But just because they look great does not mean the are better or stronger then a less pretty weld. Earlier this year I had one of my coworkes get hurt because of a very pretty weld that was all form and no function. At 2000 rpm a 5lbs welded jaw broke at the weld. Normally I take all the jaws to my father (A journeyman master tig welder) but the boss did not have time to wait so heran it down town to the local guy. Welds looked great but had no penitration. Lucky no one got killed. I cuused my boss out and then the hack welder. When a good weld is means one safety I trust very few people. My father has taught for Lincoln, done TIG for more than one top level IRL team, GM has hired him to teach welding at the plants.
I know they weren't even close but frankly I could give a shit how the weld looks cause your not going to see it at 200mph.
100% agreed. The power that people like Schied, Haisley and the Smiths have found by going to a ZZ manifold speaks for itself.

Those welds are top notch looking for sure. But will he do diesel stuff? You might be suprised that a lot of maniflod fab guys will not. Remeber a max effort gasser is around 30 psi of boost not 60+ like us. Big difference in materails needed

Everytime we order one of these for a coustomer and get it in I am amazed.
They will not do diesels. I call and talked to them months ago. The boost pressures I run scare them! They reccomended I talk to ZZ Fab.

Yes that was a total bait. I have seen ZZ Fab work it is top notch. The weld may not be as pretty as the ones shown in the first post but the gains people see from his manifolds are all that is beautiful to me.

I guess that is why I ordered one!:D

WOW!

A local guy Mitch Howe does welds that look like that on chrome moly. That's who did my rollcage. Chris (Neens) turned me on to him.

If you want to see robot welds, look at a modern motorcycle frame. They are usually aren't as pretty as the pics in this thread.

The guy who welds for PPE is really good with aluminum, and welds cast to tube very well.

Who? Banks? Banks is not a vendor here currently.

Tell him we restrict insults in tech threads (well we joke around, but nothing brutal). I won't allow a "dogpile" on him like I see elsewhere. But I won't allow spamming either. He is welcome to post tech here, or ask questions.

Scheid builds their own manfolds...and Smith's motors....I HIGHLY doubt you'll find a ZZ Fab manifold on either.

Dutch at PPE is one amazing welder . We cut up my cast intake and cut out the egr passage and he tigged it back together . It looks good . No stopping and starting is visible . Also cut and clocked my intercooler tubes that also look incredible . :thumb:

Damn good welder .

I wish I could weld like that . My welding gets the job done but is far from pretty .

Those manifolds are beautys . Amazing if done by hand .

Does either Scheid or Smith really tell you what's up, or are you going by magazine data?

No disrespect intended, just curious, I've never really read any tech from either.

Ummm....I look at their trucks myself ?
Good enough ?

From Jimmy Smith " we dynoed our motor this winter and then cut the intake off and added scheid's intake......."

Good enough. I really didn't know. Most the HP Scheid engine stuff is lists of what's not on the truck (often correct), not what is on the truck.

Nice weld by any standard, but not that hard to learn to do on aluminum. (If you have the right person to teach you) Do it in a mirror while standing on your head hanging 200 feet in the air on a skyclimber and then I'll be impressed. Anyone can learn to weld on a bench:D

TIG welded aluminum for the first time today.... trying out my new toy. It is not that hard to do, but obviously mine do not look that good yet. I'll keep practicing.

I need to go practice ;) i got lots of ideas/projects to do in alum:p A good skill test is welding 2 pop cans together! <---i failed so far

I piticularly like the buzz/scaryness of the welder when welding with AC current:D it no feel good either:eek:

Making aluminum welds look good is easy. I see welds like that everyday;). (looks and function) Nice job, but like Turbo Buick said, make it a little harder, upside down, though a mirror, etc.

Try welding on material that doesn't weld easily:angel:
